Fotoshop Ad

Friday, 13 January 2012

This spoof ad, (which is currently on its way to going viral), makes fun of our society's obsession with promoting false images of women and beauty. If you're reading this, you're probably a fan of beauty products, and/or a blogger yourself. We know that those images of women looking 'flawless' in magazines are fake and that it's all the work of Photoshop. We know that those women don't really look like that and that they are 'helped' by an array of make-up artists, fitness trainers etc. Yet there are some women who don't realise that the photos are all computer generated because we rarely see any proper images of normal looking people anymore, which is pretty sad.

From a bloggers perspective: writing a beauty blog can often be seen as a silly, materialistic and superficial thing. In some ways it is, but a great deal of beauty bloggers are honest when they review products and don't promote unrealistic claims that you see in some of these ads. I think it's this honesty that will help to stop some women looking at a Photoshopped ad and thinking that if they buy X mascara, then their eyelashes will look like that because they can now easily search for a review of it. Also when we post photos, that's the real 'person' that you're seeing. For example, I may post a close up of a new mascara that I'm loving and you'll see the fine lines around my eyes because *shock horror*, normal people have those!

So ignore the magazines with their airbrushing and digital editing, and seek out images of 'real' women, with our warts and all.

  3. wow this is a real eye opener! I know this stuff goes on but never knew to what extent. But some adverts are just plain fake like Penelope Cruz mascara advert they were fake eyelashes! There should be some law on false advertising. I agree with bloggers giving honest opinions I honestly do not buy any magazines or read any fashion mags I purely stick to LookBook and Blogspot.

    Great post by the way!

  7. This is so funny! It's true that it happens, but the whole point of blogging is surely to give real reviews and honest pictures of what the products will and wont achieve. It's trying to promote a healthier view to women that we are all human and not perfect all the time.
