Cheap Packaging Woes with Dermacol Compact Powder

Dermacol Compact Powder in Medium (about £1)

When I saw this compact in a drogerie in Prague, I instantly fell in love with the intricate detailing on the powder.  Then I saw the price which was equal to about a £1 and obviously bought it.  Sadly, our love affair ended somewhat abruptly this morning.

I had originally taken these photos in order to show you all what a great powder this is.  It's finely milled, not at all chalky and sets make-up so easily.  Plus it kept my oily t-zone shine free for the majority of the day.  Not bad at all for a £1!

If you can take your eyes off that beautiful print for just a second, you'll see that the powder itself is packaged in quite cheap and flimsy plastic (well it was a £1, I can't complain!).  As it survived its journey to the UK under swathes of cellophane, I thought it would be stable enough to survive the depths of my handbag.

Wrong :(

It smashed into a million tiny pieces this morning and that was the end of that.

Do you prefer to pay a bit extra for products that have more durable packaging or doesn't it matter when something is cheap to start with?

  1. Wow, the print looks gorgeous, such a shame it got smashed! I absolutely hate products with flimsy, cheap packaging! Even if I buy something reasonably cheap, I still think the packaging has to be somewhat durable.

    1. Yeah I thought it might be OK because I have a separate little make-up bag within my handbag, but sadly no :( x

  4. Oh no, that sucks! Especially if the product itself didn't disappoint. I guess just don't ever bring flimsily packaged goods into the challenging environment that is a woman's handbag lol

    1. Haha! Yeah my handbag is pretty much a disaster prone zone with how much stuff is in it! x

  5. Oh no, such a shame it completely smashed, especially seeing as you liked it so much! I guess that's the risk we take with cheaper products, but it's just too tempting to grab a bargain when the opportunity comes along for the flimsy packaging to ever really be a deterrent! xx

  6. That pattern is so cute. I would rather pay a bit more for a product with sturdy packaging (I'm forever dropping my make up) but even then you can sometimes find the odd one thats not made very well.

    1. That's true, I've had problems with NARS products smashing when you hit pan of them, so annoying given that they've got that special rubber packaging xx
