Haircare: Stila Jade Blossom Hair Refresher

Saturday, 18 August 2012

Stila's Jade Blossom Hair Refresher was a surprise find in the recent crazy Poundland sprees that have been taking place up and down the country.  So is it any good?

Well, generally yes, it's pretty damn good but needs to be used with some caution.

Hair refreshers and most dry shampoos which come in a white powder format can be problematic to use, especially if you have dark hair.  You almost face a troublesome dilemma of risking leaving the house looking like you have dreadful dandruff or not using it and having your hair look like it's had a run in with an oil slick.

What I like about this hair refresher from Stila is that it dispenses the powder in little 'puffs', rather than you having to judge how much to use by tipping an amount into your hands.  When using the right amount of little puffs, this hair refresher is brilliant.  The powder effectively absorbs any excess oil easily and my hair definitely looked cleaner after using it.

But it's the puff dispersal that can make you overuse it.  It's very easy to get carried away with how much you put on, because it doesn't look like you're using much.  Then when you go to brush it out, you realise there's far too much on your hair and it looks like you've gone out in a snow storm!

For a £1, this is more than worth the extra effort it takes to apply the right amount and #bbloggers are telling me it's still available in some Poundlands!

One last thing to mention, if you have a sensitive scalp, you may want to give this a miss.  If I use too much of it, it starts to irritate my scalp a bit, but if you use just enough, it's OK, but I wouldn't want to use this all the time due to the high perfume content in it.

Have you picked this up recently?  What did you think?

  1. I really like this but I agree it can be quite drying on the scalp when you use it a bit too much

    1. Yep, as long as I use the right amount it's OK, but too much and it's way too drying/irritating.

  4. I tried this before and I made the mistake of using too much, it made my hair feel really gummy! Strange feeling. I never got the hang of it and chucked it. Dry shampoo aerosol format works for me! :P X

    1. That's the word, gummy! It does feel very strange on if you use too much. I haven't had much luck with aerosol ones so far, but there are still a few I'd like to try out x

  5. I remember smelling this once and loved it! But I don't really use dry shampoos. It sounds like it's nice though!

  6. Sounds fantastic for only £1 even though it might be a little bit tricky to apply in the right amount. I know what you mean by looking like you've just come out of a snow storm if you overdo it! :p
