Tried & Tested: Evolve Daily Detox Facial Wash

Evolve Daily Detox Facial Wash (200ml, £10.99)*

Evolve are one of those brands that I see pop up every now and again via various blogs and online sites, so I've always been curious about them.  They tick a lot of boxes in terms of being natural, having some organic ingredients and being made in the UK etc, so I was excited to try out one of their face washes.

Evolve's Daily Detox Facial Wash is formulated for normal to oily skin types and promises to detoxify and rebalance the skin.  It features key ingredients such as Natural Sugars which help to cleanse away any impurities; African Moringa seed to remove traces of pollution, Organic Aloe Vera to soothe troublesome skin and Goji Berry to protect against free radical damage.  The overall ingredients are 99.6% natural, 20.6% of which are organic (EcoCert) and is free from all known chemical nasties.  It is also suitable for Vegans and like the rest of the Evolve range, is made in the UK and comes in a 100% recycled plastic bottle.

I was a little uncertain about trying out this face wash because it has a foaming formula.   I generally tend to stay away from skincare which foams, especially cleansers because I find them far too drying and stripping for my skin.  The main reason for this is because a lot of them contain SLS which can be very irritating for some people's skin.  This facial wash has Sodium Coco Sulfate in it instead which is derived from coconut, and is a much safer and less irritating ingredient than SLS.

So how did I get on with it?
The formula has a pleasant natural 'herbal meets floral' scent and it does foam up, but it doesn't feel too 'soapy'.  It's a very clarifying face wash so it gives you a proper deep cleanse and removes all impurities; plus it cleans out your pores very effectively.  However, because of this, it can sometimes leave my face feeling very 'tight' afterwards and if I don't moisturise straight away, my skin gets very dry and feels too stripped.  For me personally, it's just too drying to use on a daily basis, but I have switched to using it just once or twice a week instead now, and that seems to suit my skin much better and is keeping breakouts at bay.  I will do a final thoughts review when I've used up the whole bottle in a future empties post.

Do you use a detox face wash?  Have you tried any Evolve skincare?

  2. I've been using a sample of the cleansing balm but it's more for dry skins (and the scent puts me off a bit). I just bought the new Liz Earle Cleanser - knew I wouldn't be able to resist x

    1. Is that the Cleansing Melt one? If so, I wasn't keen on the scent of that either when I tried a sample from Naturismo. You will love that Rose & Lavender C&P! x

  5. Great review hun. This range is new to me, I haven't read many reviews about it. I like the sound of this though. Shame it was a little drying on your skin. I wonder if it it would be ok on my skin maybe just as a morning wash and use a cream cleanser in the evening? I have so many to get through at the moment though so I will have to wait before buying this :)

    1. It may well work as just a morning wash, especially if you just use a pea sized amount. I know that feeling, I seem to be accumulating cleansers at the mo! :)

  6. I haven't heard of this brand before but this face wash sounds pretty interesting, definitely seems better to use once a week instead of a daily basis. I need to find a good detoxing face wash - my skin seems to have gone crazy since starting a new job! :( x

    1. This is definitely good for calming down your skin if it's playing up and works a treat when I just use it once or twice a week. Congrats on the new job btw :) x

  7. Hi Evelyn,

I LOVED the Evolve shampoo we got in our Amarya boxes a few months ago and I ended up buying a it again as well as the conditioner. I haven't tried any of their skincare though so I'm interested to see how you got on with this in a few weeks! x

    1. Ooo I think I got a conditioner sample in mine instead and I loved that, the one that smells like cake batter right?!

I've been using this once, sometimes twice a week so far for the last month and it's been a good face wash for me in terms of preventing breakouts, but I find it far too stripping to use on a daily basis sadly. I think if you have very oily skin, then you'd love this! x
