10 Films List

(1) The Dreamers (2003)
One of my favourite films, it's set in Paris during the infamous 1968 student protests and centers itself around the unconventional interactions between a young French brother and sister, and their American friend.  Despite the political upheaval around them, they escape into their own 'dreamers' world of art, music, films and literature, but eventually realise that reality must be faced.  Contains a lot of nudity but don't let that put you off.

(2) Good Bye Lenin! (2003)
German film about a young son who tries to protect his mother from a potential life threatening second heart attack by telling a very big lie!  As his mother was in a coma during the unification of Germany, she is oblivious, when she awakes, to the new Western capitalist 'freedoms' that have taken over East Germany.  Fearing that his mother may literally die of shock from seeing such change, Alex must recreate a pre-unified Germany in their home, and so ensues hilarious attempts to literally 'go back in time'.

(3) Jennifer's Body (2009)
Megan Fox's character becomes possessed by a demon when a sacrificing ritual, to make local indie band Low Shoulder famous, goes wrong, and starts to eat boys in her highschool.  Stars Amanda Seyfried as her best friend and features all of the clever teen dialogue that writer Diablo Cody is known for.

 (4) Scott Pilgrim Vs The World (2010)
American teen comedy based on a popular graphic novel.  Our leading man (Michael Cera) must take on his new girlfriend's 'seven evil exes' as they attempt to kill him for going out with Ramona.  Throughout the entire film, I had a serious hair envy of Ramona's style!

(5) The Raven (2012)
Fictional thriller based around Edgar Allan Poe's last days, as he tries to find out who the serial killer is that is copying the characters in his stories.  Although it looks very stylish, I found the story in this one to be a bit slow.

(6) God Bless America (2011)
Hilarious black comedy with lots of political satire about a middle aged man who really doesn't like what society has become.  If you loved the dark humour of films like Falling Down and Office Space, then you'll love this.  It's quite possibly the best film you can stream for free on LoveFilm right now.

(7) The Lost Boys (1987)
Classic 80s vampire flick with Kiefer Sutherland.  Have literally lost count of the amount of times I've seen this!

 (8) The Cabin In The Woods (2012)
Alternative take on the tried and tested 'cabin in the woods' teen horror formula, combining it with a bizarre reality TV show vibe.

(9) Red Road (2006)
Independent British film set against the then infamous, but now destroyed, Red Road Flats in Glasgow.  A CCTV operator one day sees a man on one of her screens, who see had hoped to never see again.  Unsettling and disturbing as the viewer tries to find out what this man has done, but I thought the ending was rather anti-climatic.

(10) The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Can you believe that I'd never seen this before?!  I recently read the short story by Stephen King that the film is based on and loved it, so I had to watch the film.  A man is convicted of a crime he claims to have not committed and is sentenced to spend the next 25 years in Shawshank State Prison.  One that I'd recommend to anyone to see at least once!

What was the last film that you watched?  Any recommendations?
