Spending Ban Update # 11

Monday, 25 March 2013

Don't be fooled by the above photo, I haven't broken my spending ban! As per my rules, I'm allowed to purchase a replacement item if something has completely run out.  Lo and behold, my ever faithful Lightening Touch Concealer Pen from The Body Shop decided to do just that last week (to be honest, I had a sneaky feeling it was running low).  I thought I had a backup somewhere in my stash but sadly this wasn't the case.  At £14 a pop, I thought it would be wiser to seek out a more budget friendly alternative for the time being.

I opted for Collection's version called Illuminating Touch Brightening Concealer which was a mere £4.99.  I also got a free Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner with it, yay!  I think this offer has now ceased and has been replaced by Boots' 3 for 2 deal instead, so I'm happy I managed to pick them up when I did.  Will have reviews on both of these up shortly once I've had a proper play with them.  Has anyone else got these or tried them before?

The rest of the week has been incredibly dull and mainly consisted of working and finishing essays.  I will be very glad when all of this snow goes and Spring finally decides to show up!

  1. I almost bought that concealer pen a few days ago but there wasn't any light shades left. Can't wait to hear how you get on with it! :)

    1. It was like that in my local Boots, I picked up the last one in 2 Natural. So far it's pretty good, if a little drying, but that might be just the weather xx

  2. Well done on finding a cheaper replacement, I hope it works as good for you if not better than the Body Shop one. Also nice to have a lil freebie come with it :)

  3. I loved that concealer a few years back - need to repurchase! I've started a new blog (got bored of Cherry Gumdrops) over at www.cardigansandnails.blogspot.co.uk, if you want to check it out :) x

  4. I use the Collection Extreme felt tip liner and love it! It's the best value for money too (to me anyway!)

    1. I'm really liking it so far - the staying power and pigmentation is great! x

  5. I know I'm in a minority, but I really don't like the Collection Concealer - I found it creased and slid and didn't really work, no matter how much I tried to set it. Hope you have better look than me!

    1. I haven't had any problems with it creasing, but I do find it a little drying. I'll have a proper play with applying it different ways to see if that helps xx

  6. Oooh I really hate to be a negative nancy, but I really recommend that you don't use the eyeliner! I had it in green and it stained my eyelids for literally 2-3 days, it was awful :( I got the black one as a freebie a few weeks back, swatched it on my hands and I was left with a horrible grey line for days! I know it's happened to others too. It's obviously up to you if you use it, but I thought I'd let you know my experience :) x

    1. I hate when that happens with eye products -- as much as I adore pigmentation, it makes me feel like I'm doing something really dangerous to my eyes...

    2. Eeeek that sounds awful! I swatched it on my hand and it seemed OK, so I've used it and haven't had any problems so far with staining or anything. Maybe a bad batch got out or I was just lucky?! x

  7. You are doing so well! I caved and subbed to SoukSouk and bought a hand serum from Botanicals! I'm struggling not to have little spends here and there! x

    1. It's really hard not to give in to the little things!
I've been SO tempted to sub to SoukSouk but haven't just yet - think I'm gonna wait a little while and see what the boxes are like. Can't wait to read your post on them! x

  8. I've never tried a full out spending ban, but I enjoy the updates on how yours is going! You're doing great :) Not sure how I'd fare...

    1. This is my first ever proper ban, I've tried to do so many in the past and failed miserably so this has been much better! I'd recommend it to anyone - it's amazing when you see how much money you save!

  9. You are doing so well! My rules have been the same - to replace anything I run out of with something to the same value or cheaper (as well as not having meals out, unnecessary purchases etc). I've done pretty well, but I don't know what happened with the two takeouts I somehow ordered in one week ouch!

    1. Ah two takeouts isn't too bad if you're doing well with everything else! :)
