Essential Care Tea Tree & Herb Shampoo* (200ml, £10.50, link)

It's not a sexy subject to discuss, but my scalp goes through phases of being very dry and flaky.  To help alleviate these symptoms, I've used Essential Care's Gentle Herb Shampoo in the past which has worked well for calming everything down, so I was happy to see that they brought out a new formula earlier this year with tea tree oil in it.

Essential Care's Tea Tree & Herb Shampoo is one you need to try if you've hit a wall with all other anti-dandruff shampoos not working for you.  This 70% organic and 100% natural shampoo is so gentle, but it's effective too.  It doesn't contain any sulphates which are known to irritate and dry out the skin.  The shampoo simply uses a blend of pure plant actives such as aloe vera juice, nettle and rosemary to soothe any irritation, clean the scalp and hair thoroughly, and to give it some extra shine (rosemary is fantastic for this!).  Because it's sulphate free, it will only produce a very small amount of lather, so I'd recommend using it on completely wet hair and massaging it into the scalp properly for a few minutes to fully benefit from it.  I also find my hair is much shinier when I've done a double wash with it too, so you may want to try that as well.

The addition of tea tree oil in this shampoo means that the natural antibacterial and anti-fungal properties quickly get to work to rid the scalp of dandruff and other related scalp problems.  I've been using this just once a week at the moment, and it's really been helping to normalize my scalp and make it happy again.  You can use it more often and even daily if you have particularly stubborn dandruff or dryness.

This and the original Gentle Herb Shampoos are formulated to act as a balancing 2-in-1 job so you technically don't need to use a separate conditioner.  However, if you have particularly dry lengths and ends like mine, I would recommend using a conditioner with it because I found my hair was left feeling too dry afterwards if I didn't.

Have you tried this or any other Essential Care products?
