Skincare Review: The Herbjar - 100% Natural Cleansing Oil, Face Cream, Exfoliating & Toning Face Mask and Body Butter

Saturday, 26 October 2013

I love to try out natural skincare, especially by small, lesser known companies.  Recently, I was kindly sent some samples to trial by The Herbjar who adhere to very strict rules when it comes down to what's natural and what isn't, so I was interested to see what their products would be like.  All of these are for Normal/Combination & Sensitive skin, so if that sounds like you, read on!

Natural Cleansing Oil* (5ml sample - £1.60 / full size - £14.98, link)
I'm a huge fan of cleansing oils because they literally melt away all of your make-up, so they're the perfect first step in a double cleanse for your evening skincare routine.  The Herbjar's Cleansing Oil is made up of a blend of Jojoba, Camellia, Shea, Avocado and Castor Oils, as well as Vitamin E and Chamomile Extract.  I applied just 2-3 drops onto my wet face and gently massaged it in, using a warm muslin cloth to take it off.  It removed all of my make-up including waterproof mascara in a matter of minutes, with no need to scrub or pull at the skin.  My face was left feeling super soft and thoroughly cleansed.

Natural Face Cream* (2ml sample - £1 / full size - £17.95, link)
All of The Herbjar's products are created without water so that they don't need any preservatives added to them.  Needless to say, their moisturisers are completely different to anything I've tried before!  Firstly, this one was very thick and is the same consistency as the Body Butter below.  It comes with a mini spatula and you only need half a pea sized amount for your whole face which is tiny!  I was dubious about this at first, but really that's all you need.  The moisturiser contains key ingredients such as Virgin Coconut Oil, Beeswax, Sunflower Oil and Shea Butter to deeply nourish and hydrate the skin.  Unfortunately though, this was far too rich for my oily/combination skin so I had to stop using it after 2 days.  Drier skintypes may appreciate this much more.

Natural Exfoliating & Toning Face Mask* (8g sample - £1.40 / full size 135g - £19.95, link)
This is a fantastic deep cleansing face mask made of Green Clay, Marine and Herbal Extracts.  It's supplied as a powder and you simply mix two teaspoons of water to it to form a paste and then apply it to cleansed skin.  It gets to work immediately so you only need to have it on for a few minutes (I tested it out for about 3-4 mins), and then you just wash it off with lots of water.  I was really impressed by this as it draws out all of your impurities and leaves the skin feeling clean and toned, but not tight or uncomfortable.

Natural Body Butter* (sample - £1 / full size £14.95, link)
The minute I unscrewed the cap, I could smell coconut oil and instantly knew I was going to get on with this!  This body butter is ultra rich and thick thanks to the Virgin Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Beeswax, and Sunflower Oil used in the formula.  You need to massage it into the skin properly and it takes a while to absorb, but it's so hydrating and absolutely perfect for dry winter skin.

All products from The Herbjar are 100% natural and water free, with samples being available to purchase from £1.  To view the whole range of products visit theherbjar.co.uk

  4. I discovered this company last year and bought some samples, interesting products but I did feel they went overboard with all the leaflets that came with them.
