Review: Gwdihw Balms - Cherry Smoochy Lips, Orange & Lemon Smoochy Lips and Nail Wizard

Tuesday 21 August 2012

If you saw my travel bag post, you'll already know that I have a fondness for anything with owls on.  So imagine my delight when this indie Welsh company called Gwdihw (pronounced goody hoo and means owl in Welsh) contact me asking if I'd like to try out some of their 100% natural balms.  Owls AND balms?!  Of course I had to say yes!

Gwdihw Cherry Smoochy Lips Balm (25g, £4.49, link)*

Cherry lip balms always remind me being at school (probably because my mum would always buy me those cherry chapsticks from the chemist), so I was hit by a wave of nostalgia when I tasted this one.  I haven't used a cherry lip balm in so long that I'd forgotten how amazing they smelt!  The balm is lightly moisturising without any heavy greasiness and sinks into the lips well.
Ingredients: Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Beeswax, Calendula and Natural Cherry.

Gwdihw Orange & Lemon Smoochy Lips Balm (25g, £4.49, link)*

The Orange & Lemon lip balm has a different beeswax formulation than the Cherry lip balm, meaning it has a higher melting point which makes it ideal to use in the hot summer months.  I find this one more hydrating than the Cherry and it has a wonderful light citrus scent/flavour to it.
Ingredients: Coconut Oil, Almond Oil, Beeswax, Lemon Essential Oil and Orange Essential Oil.

There are also two other flavours in the Smoochy Lips Balm range: Vanilla and Pineapple, both of which sound yummy!

Gwdihw Nail Wizard Balm (25g, £4.49, link)*

The Nail Wizard is a thick herbal, lemon scented balm which helps to nourish dry cuticles and nails.  I've recently gotten into the habit of applying a cuticle balm before going to bed and my nails definitely feel stronger because of it.  This one feels a little greasy to start off with (especially when compared to the more thick cream consistency of Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream - afterall the Nail Wizard is a balm and not a cream), but it soon sinks into the cuticles leaving them soft in the morning.
Ingredients: Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Beeswax, Cocoa Butter, Calendula and Lemon Oil.

Summary: I think these are great value because you get a HUGE 25g of product in each tin which will last a long, long time.  The packaging is undeniably cute and I can imagine these making excellent stocking filler gifts at xmas - I've already had a work colleague asking me where I got the Cherry Lip balm from because they know their daughter would want one!

The full range of Gwdihw natural balms and soothers are available from their website.

Have you tried anything from Gwdihw?
