6 Easy Makeup & Skincare Tricks to Make Tired Eyes Look More Awake

I don't know about you, but I'm definitely not a morning person and always wake up looking like a zombie with huge dark circles.  In order for me to look more awake, I rely on these easy skincare and makeup tricks.

Trick 1:  De-puff those bags!
If you have puffy eyes in the morning, putting on a load of makeup over the top isn't the immediate answer you're looking for.  You need something to de-puff the bags before applying any makeup. One of the best products I've found to do this is Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion which not only helps to banish the bags, but has active natural ingredients which brighten up dark eye areas. Alternatively, try placing a cold spoon over each eye for a minute to de-puff those pesky bags.

Trick 2: Moisturise the undereye area
Using a good eye cream can really help - dry undereye areas can look more tired and dull than freshly hydrated ones, plus the action of applying eye cream gently to the skin helps to get the blood flowing and wakes everything up.

Trick 3: Correct dark circles before concealing
If dark circles are making you look like the undead, then try 'correcting' them first by using a salmon-pink concealer to cancel out the blue undertones of dark circles.  You'll see a noticeable difference straight away.

Trick 4: Use a brightening concealer
Once you've corrected the main dark circles, dab a little brightening concealer over the top to really look more wide awake and bushy tailed.  A HG favourite of mine for this task is The Body Shop Lightening Concealer Pen which works a treat, but there are lots of similar products that do the same thing on the highstreet.

Trick 5: Nude eyeliner is your new BFF
Line your bottom waterline with a nude coloured eyeliner to get rid of any redness from lack of sleep or allergies, and dot a little in the inner corner of your eyes to brighten that area up in seconds.

Trick 6: Curl lashes & add mascara
Curling your lashes opens them up which gives you an instant 'awake' look.  Then simply follow with a coat or two of your favourite mascara to add extra definition, volume and/or length.  All done!

Do you use any of these tricks to look more awake?

  1. I totally need to get a flesh tone/nude eyeliner for the lower water line! And a corrector for the days I have more serious darkness! Great steps, I think you've got them all!

  3. I love your tips! They're all really helpful. The one I need to do more is correcting the colour under my eyes before concealing. I think it makes such big difference as otherwise I feel as though I could use as much concealer as I wanted and nothing would change x

  5. Agree with Sasha - great post! I use a yellow colour correcting concealer from Mally Beauty (looks like Dijon mustard but works a treat!) and I love it - either on it's own or under my concealer! xx
