If you've ever had a tan from a holiday abroad, you'll know that once you're back home in Blighty, your face is always the first area to lose its holiday colour before the rest of your body. Luckily, there are lots of self-tanners specifically for faces on the market to give you a helping hand.
For a long time, the only self-tanner that has been slapped onto my face has been James Read Sleep Mask Tan. I've tried a few from other brands, both high end and budget, but alas, my sometimes sensitive and fickle skin just doesn't seem to get along with anything other than the one from James Read. So it was with some caution that I approached this latest release from He-Shi, their Overnight Ageless Tanning Balm. He-Shi's Express Liquid Tan still holds the title for my Holy Grail tanner of choice, so I had high hopes for this.
Luckily, it did not disappoint. In fact, I may be even leaning towards preferring it over the James Read Sleep Mask Tan which is something I never thought would happen.
He-Shi's Overnight Ageless Tanning Balm is a gradual self-tanner with anti-aging skincare benefits thanks to some key firming and hydrating ingredients such as Brazilian Millesis, Jojoba Protein, Hyaluronic Acid and Almond Oil. The tan part of it has 100% natural DHA (3%) and the formula is free from parabens and alcohol, plus there's no noticeable fake tan scent. It comes packaged in a convenient pump, and you simply apply 2-3 pumps to clean, dry skin with a tanning mitt. Although it's described as a balm, it's more like a light lotion and absorbs easily without any stickiness. I like to apply this in the evening or at night, as it takes around 6-8 hours for the tan to develop so it's a good one to sleep in. Waking up in the morning, I had a healthy looking light tan, completely non-orange, and just gorgeous. And as I haven't had any breakout issues with it, I can happily declare that I love it!
He-Shi Overnight Ageless Tanning Balm* (50ml, £22.50) is available from Space NK.
