In the world of haircare, it can be easy to overlook pre-shampoo treatments. They can seem like an unnecessary faff when you just want to get into the shower and get your hair washed at the end of a long day, so I generally reserve them for when I've got extra time to do a proper pampering session, or before a big special occasion.
However, having now used Leonor Greyl's cult famous L'Huile de Leonor Greyl, my attitude has definitely changed. This luxury pre-shampoo treatment oil uses the superstar ingredient, Coconut Oil, as its main base and blends this with other hydrating and nourishing friends such as Sesame Seed Oil, Jojoba Oil and Sunflower Seed Oil, to deliver an exceptionally effective treatment for dry, damaged and/or coloured hair that's free from SLS, SLES, Silicones and Parabens.
The idea behind pre-shampoo treatments is that they help to protect the hair before you put it through all of the pushing and pulling of washing it. When your hair is wet, it's incredibly fragile and easily prone to breakage, especially if it's not in the best condition beforehand, so a pre-shampoo treatment makes sense to giving it a strengthening helping hand prior to washing. And the theory actually works; my hair is a lot less tangled, stressed and feels stronger after washing.
What I like the most about this particular treatment from Leonor Greyl is that you can either apply it 10 minutes before washing for a quick fix, or you can leave it on overnight for a super intensive hydrating treatment. As it's coconut oil based, it needs a gentle warming up to transfer back to its oil state if the temperature is cold, but a tiny, tiny amount goes a long way, and after I've rinsed it off, my hair is so much more manageable, shiny and thoroughly moisturised. I also give it bonus points for the beautiful luxe glass packaging which looks stunning on your bathroom shelf, and the scent of it is just divine.
