Budget Beauty: Dirty Works Bye Bye! Dark Circles Concealer: Photos & Swatches

Dirty Works Bye Bye! Dark Circles (2 x 4.5g, £4.99, link)

Sainsbury's isn't the first place I would normally look when it comes to buying make-up.  However,  when Sherrie told me about an awesome concealer from Sainsbury's own brand, Dirty Works range, I had to see if my local store stocked it.

Bye Bye! Dark Circles comes in a chunky compact plastic cube, with the outer packaging being similar in that kitsch way to Soap & Glory.  When you open up the cube, you'll see a light, yellow based concealer on the left and a peachy pink corrector on the right.  You can apply the corrector to your undereye circles first and then pop a little of the concealer on the top for a finished look, or you can mix both shades to suit your skintone.

The formula is very creamy at first, almost to the point of being overally greasy, but after a few uses, the cream dries a little in the pan making it slightly easier to use.  Application of this was tricky to begin with (originally I had a go at applying this with my fingers and then with a standard flat concealer brush), but after using the Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush, I noticed that it applied much more smoothly and blended in a lot easier too.  Thanks Deluxe Crease Brush!

The photos below show the results that I achieved with both the corrector and then the concealer on top.  The concealer shade is a bit too light for my skintone at the moment, but I think I'll be able to use it more during the winter months when I'm less tanned.  The corrector makes a BIG difference with helping me look more awake.  I have naturally brownish discolouration around my eyes which make my eyes look very tired and sunken, so the peachy-pinkness of the corrector cancels it out quite dramatically!

There is a downside to this seemingly amazing concealer duo though.

IT CREASES LIKE YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE!

This creased on me within an hour.  When I applied some UDPP underneath AND a little translucent powder over the top to set it, it lasted perhaps 3-4 hours before creasing.  It also has a tendency to go very cakey if you apply the tiniest amount too much, so it takes some extra time to apply in the morning.  You also need to have a decent eye cream on underneath, otherwise it will cling to any dry parts.

Despite this, I'm still going to persevere with it for the time being and touch it up when it does start to crease.  I will however try out the Bobbi Brown corrector one of these days and see whether that lives up to its hype!

Have you tried this?  Do you use a corrector with your concealer?

  1. It definitely looks like it brightens up your eyes! It's such a shame that it creases :-( x

  2. I have been using this product for ages (I used something a few years ago that was EXACTLY the same but branded Dr something...same price, from tesco!) and I have to say, I love it! I haven't been too bothered by the slight creasing as I constantly touch up my make up. I find it feels really rich and the peachy toned colour is a serious make up godsend! I have used many more expensive items over the years but this tops them all, hands down. Only downside for me is the packaging which always breaks within a few months and I have to wrap it up in a tissue. Slightly annoying! x

    1. The corrector is amazing, I love the results from it, though I'm trying out some other blending techniques at the mo to see if it'll stop the creasing a bit!
That is annoying about the packaging - I'll have to make sure I don't throw mine around in my bag :) x

  6. For the price I suppose you can't expect it to be perfect, it's too bad that it creases! Don't think it will work too well with my skin, since it can get a bit dry. I've noticed the Dirty Works range quite a few times, will have to take a closer look! xx

  8. Oh that's a shame about the creasing I was really excited about this product (as I always have dark circles) until I read that.
