Review: Essential Care Mineral Concealer in Fair

Wednesday 22 August 2012

Essential Care Mineral Concealer in Fair (5g, £17.50)*

Earlier this month I found my new favourite nude lip shade in the form of Essential Care's Mineral Lipstick in Praline (review & swatches of that here), so when one of their new mineral concealers popped through my letterbox, I was more than eager to try it.

The new mineral concealers from Essential Care come packaged in lipstick bullet form and can be used to hide blemishes and cover up dark undereye circles.  The formula is 76% organic (Soil Association accredited) and is made of a blend of 100% pure minerals and plant extracts (you've got soothing herbs such as sea buckthorn and calendula in here), with the virgin coconut oil in it coming from a fair trade source.

The concealers are purposefully designed for those with sensitive skin, and let's face it, if you're putting anything near your eyes, you certainly don't want to use any products which could potentially irritate the delicate eye area, do you?

When I first applied the concealer to my undereye dark circles, I was worried that it was going to crease straight away because the texture is very creamy and I have some prominent fine lines under my eyes that are a pain in the ass to deal with.

But it didn't!

I buffed the concealer in with a damp Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush and it blended like a dream.  (I highly recommend getting that brush if you use creamy concealers a lot!)  I didn't have any issues with creasing or it going cakey on me, but I did find that it looked a lot more noticeable on if I didn't use the RTDC Brush with it.  The coverage is light-medium and it can be layered up to more of a medium-full coverage if desired (though if you're using this under your eyes, you probably don't want to pack on too much product regardless).  I found the wear time to be around around 5-6 hours without any primer underneath, so by this time scale I imagine it may last a full day when layered over something like UDPP.

All in all, if you're looking for a great quality, natural mineral concealer, then these are well worth checking out.  But don't just take my word for it!  For another blogger's opinion on this concealer, you can read Sarah's review here.  The only downside I have to point out is that the shade range is currently limited to just two shades, fair and medium.

Essential Care Mineral Concealers are currently on a special introductory offer for £14.

Have you tried anything from Essential Care's make-up line?

  1. This sounds like a really great product, I always have problems with my eye area and dark circles etc. I like the introductory offer, I might just get it while it's that price as I'm not sure I could justify paying more for a concealer

  2. Great review hun. This is the second review of this I've read this week. I think I'm going to try it for some of my more stubborn acne scars! It's UK made too right?

  3. Thanks so much for mentioning my review, love your close up pictures of the product. I have not used any brushes to apply the concealer, just my fingers so it goes to show how super this really is :)

    1. No probs! I thought I'd add your link because you specialise in sensitive skin/allergy free products so readers can learn more about that. I found applying this with my fingers OK, but the fair shade is a touch too light for me at the moment because I'm slightly tanned, so blending it with the RTDC brush works better for me colour wise :)

  4. Great review. I havent used a stick concealer since my teens. And I still need to get my hands on the RTDCB. I've only tried an Essential Care lippy but really like it, feels lovely on the lips.

    1. I know what you mean, I used to use stick concealers all the time when I was a teen too. I do love Essential Care's lippies :) xx

  5. It does look quite creamy but it's good news that it doesn't crease! The pixiwoo girls seem to exclusively apply their concealer with the deluxe crease brush (or a similar one from the travel set, the name of which eludes me right now), so I'm not surprised that brush works superbly for concealers :)

    1. Yep! It's definitely my favourite brush to use with creamy concealers, makes blending so quick and easy :)

    1. It was quite strange trying it again at first, but pretty much the same as using a cream concealer in a pot :) x

  8. Great review, your blog is always interesting. I didn't think much of Essential care until I received some of the moisturiser in the Amarya box now I am hooked on a few of their skincare items. I will have to give the makeup a try, it's so hard to find good natural makeup!
