Review: Skin Salveation products for Eczema/Dry Skin

Friday 17 August 2012

I was recently introduced to Skin Salveation who specialise in products for people who have eczema and other dry skin issues.  They kindly sent me some of their range to try out as I've had eczema since I was a child, so I'm always interested to see what products are on the market that can help.

DermaSalve Body Cream (100ml, £5.99, link)*

DermaSalve is a moisturising body cream which helps to soften and soothe dry and sensitive skin.  Its hypoallergenic formula is free from many known irritants such as lanolin, fragrances, alcohol and parabens.  The formula is a little strange, in that it's a light-non greasy cream, but it feels very 'wet' when you first apply it onto the skin.  It soon soaks in though.  Although it's fragrance-free, it has a really weird smell about it, I can't quite pinpoint as to what it is which is frustrating, but it's not something I'm keen on, so I personally wouldn't use this as an all over body lotion.  It is however, very good at moisturising very dry skin areas such as elbows and heels, and the pump on this makes it so easy to dispense.

If you're interested in trying this for eczema relief, you can ask your GP for a prescription for it, (which is handy to know if you're entitled to free prescriptions on the NHS).  You can also try out a free 20ml sample (just pay P&P) by clicking here.

Skin Salveation Shampoo (250ml, £9.99, link)*

This shampoo is designed to be gentle to all hair types and has a cleansing SLS and fragrance free formula.  It lathers nicely and didn't irritate my sensitive scalp which is always good!  I did find this too drying on my hair though to use regularly, but it works well as a weekly clarifying shampoo to keep my scalp happy.

Skin Salveation Maintenance Soap Pack (4 x 75g, £14.50, link)*

As you can see, there are only 3 soaps pictured as I have one currently in use.  The Maintenance pack is designed to keep dry skin feeling comfortable and non-irritated.  The soaps have a controlled amount of sodium silicate which is a natural element which can help to heal damaged or dry, itchy skin.  They can be used all over as a gentle, leave-on cleanser, as well as on the scalp to treat dry skin issues there too.  Instead of leaving it to dry on my skin, I have been using this as my main hand soap because my hands have been feeling particularly dry lately, and I've noticed that they feel a lot more comfortable after I've used this throughout the day.

Skin Salveation Lip Balm (10g, £3.49, link)*

Last but not least, I tried out their lip balm which is 100% natural and organic.  The formula of this is lovely; light and quickly absorbed, whilst being very hydrating.  I'd rate this as good as anything from Burt's Bees!

I also tested out the Skin Salveation Laundry Powder (400g, 24 washes, £7.99, link)* - I don't have a great deal to say about it as I didn't notice any difference between that and my usual Ecover laundry liquid, but it washed my clothes well and didn't irritate my skin.

Disclaimer: Skin Salveation run a programme where they advise using only their products for a period of 8 weeks to see results for eczema and dry skin complaints.  Whilst I do have eczema, I only experience severe flare ups every now and again, so most of the time my eczema is usually mild and manageable.  I tried out the products above based on my general dry skin, so if you follow the programme and have more serious issues with eczema/dry skin, you may achieve much better results.

The full range of Skin Salveation products are available direct from their website.

  1. I'd never heard of this company before, but I think I might have to get my boyfriend to try some of this, he suffers from eczema flareups on his shoulders from time to time.
