Review: Liz Earle Lash Definition Smudgeproof Mascara

Monday 10 September 2012

Liz Earle Lash Definition Smudgeproof Mascara in Black (8ml, £14.50, link)*

Today sees the exciting launch of the full Liz Earle make-up range which extends upon their previously released Colour Capsule Collection.  The full range is just that; from new foundations to lipsticks and everything in between, I'm already making a huge wishlist from it!  I was kindly sent their Lash Definition Smudgeproof Mascara and couldn't wait to try it out.

Packaged in a shimmery midnight blue tube, this mascara offers a long lasting, water-resistant formula and comes in either black or brown.  It promises to define your lashes, whilst also being easy to remove when you want it to come off.

The wand is a pretty standard medium size and features lots of tiny bristles.  I found the formula to be just right in that it's neither too wet, nor too dry, instead it just sits happily in between the two.

I wasn't expecting huge things from this mascara in terms of 'WOW' lashes or anything, because I don't think it would be in keeping with the Liz Earle brand for them to release something like that.  Instead, this mascara is quite a simple, everyday/work-friendly one.  It defines lashes subtly with one coat (as shown below) and doesn't clump at all.  It lived up to its claims of not smudging, and it didn't flake one bit or irritate my eyes.

It was also super easy to take off at night (I've tried it with a micellar water and also with Cleanse & Polish, both ways worked great), which makes it an excellent option for those who like wearing waterproof mascaras, but like it to come off properly and not leave you with panda eyes!

Summary
General Pros: Natural, everyday, work-friendly definition for lashes.  Waterproof, lasts all day.  No smudging, no flaking.  Easy to remove.  Ideal for sensitive eyes.
General Cons: May not be defining enough for everyone's taste.

To celebrate the launch of the new Colour essentials, Liz Earle are inviting customers to join them in their four Liz Earle stores (London, Leeds, Guildford and the Isle of Wight) on 14th and 15th September.  An expert team will be on hand throughout the day to offer make up consultations and advice on the new range.  Liz Earle will also be celebrating the launch of the new make up must-haves in the following John Lewis stores that stock the Colour range, on both the 14th and 15th September: (Cardiff, Cheadle, Cribbs Causeway, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Norwich, Oxford Street, Southampton, Stratford and Trafford).

You can also enter an online prize draw for a chance to win a makeover for you and a friend with professional make up artist Laura Tucker. Just visit lizearle.com/makeover between the 10th - 16th September to be in with a chance of winning!

What do you think of this mascara?  Do you prefer to use a more natural looking one for day time and a different one for going out etc?
