Amarya Organic / Natural Beauty Box - October 2012

Wednesday 10 October 2012

Amarya box (£10 + P&P per month, link)

October's Amarya box is a balance Me themed one, and features four travel sized samples from the natural brand.  Inside were the following:-

  • balance Me Wonder Eye Cream, 7ml - This is a triple action eye cream that soothes, brightens and lifts tired eyes.  I have one of these already stashed away in my Wonder Woman Tin which I got when they were given away with Glamour magazine over the summer.
  • balance Me Balancing Face Moisturiser, 20ml - Like the eye cream, I picked up one of these with Glamour and haven't used it yet, but I'm happy that it's for my skin type.
  • balance Me Citrus and Spice Hand and Body Wash, 55ml - A fresh and zingy body wash which smells really refreshing - can't wait to use this!
  • balance Me Citrus and Spice Hand and Body Lotion, 55ml - The matching body lotion to the wash above, again smells really good and I always enjoy layering my shower and body lotion products.
I have to admit that I felt a pang of disappointment when I opened the box and discovered that there were just balance Me products inside, especially as 2 out of the 4 samples are products that were given away with Glamour at £2 each not so long ago.  With this in mind, I feel a little short changed this month, which is a first for Amarya because I always felt they were excellent value for money.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to using all of the samples here, and I do like balance Me in general (currently in love with their Cleanse & Smooth Face Balm!), but they seem to be heavily over saturating the beauty box market at the moment to the point where I feel people are getting sick of seeing them constantly in the boxes!  Plus I'd prefer to try out samples by brands I haven't already used before, so although I'll happily use everything at some point, it was sadly a pretty boring box for me this time around.

Did you receive an Amarya box this month?
What did you think?

  1. Balance Me are popping up all over the place lately. I didn't get this months box but I would feel the same as you. It's always a bit gutting when you get a product that was a freebie not long ago.

    1. Yeah, I wouldn't have minded so much if those two were different ones instead. Seems like they had a big overstock of samples from the Glamour promotion and sold them off to all the beauty boxes! xx

  2. I have to admit I would be so disappointed if I were a subscriber and received this! Especially since I recently bought a Latest in Beauty box for £9.95 inc. p&p and received 11 products, 6 full size.

    1. I know! I've missed out on that LIB box, but would definitely have snapped one up at that price if they hadn't all sold out! xx

  3. I was a bit disappointed too. I like the products (especially the orange and spice scent) but we usually get a full-size product... I think if I'd seen these products for sale for £12.50 I wouldn't have even thought about buying them.

    1. Same here, if I'd seen it for sale for that price, I wouldn't have paid for it either :(

  4. Yeah it's a bit rubbish about the eye cream that's been popping up everywhere as a freebie. I'd feel the same as you. Oh well I guess the box doesn't suit everyone ;)

    1. It's a strange marketing concept isn't it to give away SO many free samples?! I would have thought after the huge Glamour promo that they'd settle down a bit! xx

  7. I was disappointed with mine - although I will use the products. Mine were also covered in black powder which I found a bit off-putting. x

    1. The black powder will be from the paper used for packing, nothing to worry about x

    2. I know that but the products just looked grubby and old! x

    3. I think it's from the black paper used, not so great for presentation considering the products are white :S - didn't notice any on mine fortunately. I feel the same, disappointed but will use everything at some point x

    1. I think they're a great brand, but I feel a bit underwhelmed by them recently due to their non-stop marketing! I will use the products though and the Citrus & Spice ones smell lovely :) xx

  10. This was only mu second Amarya box and I was a bit disappointed to get a box full of the same brand. Although I haven't tried Balance Me before, the main reason I subscribed was to try out a variety of brands products so I hope that this isn't a regular occurence. Absolutely love the blog by the way.

    1. I agree, I don't mind boxes that are all by one brand, but I would prefer that they were advertised as such before paying for one (like the Latest In Beauty Editor Picks boxes).

I've been a subscriber to Amarya for over a year now and this is the first time they've done this, so I think they were just experimenting to see how they were received by customers. Hopefully the boxes in the future will be more varied because I've seen a lot of people disappointed by this month's box.

Thank you, I'm glad you like it :)
