Review: terre d'Oc Mineral Powder Foundation, Powder Eye Shadow & Gloss Sublime Lip Gloss

Wednesday 17 October 2012

Last week I was lucky enough to attend a terre d'Oc blogger event and some of you wanted to see reviews of the make-up that I received in my goody bag, so here it is!  Plus, if you haven't tried out any terre d'Oc make-up before, then this post may serve as a helpful introduction to what the brand has to offer.

terre d'Oc Mineral Powder Foundation in 903 Beige Dore Kilimandjaro (3.5g, £24.95, link)*

terre d'Oc's mineral powder foundation is made from 99% natural ingredients (20% of which are organic - Ecocert certified) and features mineral pigments coated in shea butter to give it a silky soft, velvety texture.  This creamy texture quickly turns very powdery when you apply it to the skin, so use a little at a time if you're wanting to build coverage otherwise it could look cakey.  It has tiny light reflective mother of pearl in it which give a healthy and radiant (but not sparkly!) glow to the skin.

Upon opening the jar, I could smell a lovely fruity scent (if you've tried REN's Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask it smells exactly the same!) and saw that the filter is a nylon/cotton looking fishnet with a circle of plastic over the top.  The problem with this packaging is that it's quite messy to use unfortunately because it has a tendency to go everywhere when you put the brush in, so do be careful!

Unfortunately this shade is much too dark for me (the mineral powder foundations come in only 3 shades and this is the darkest one), but I can say that when I used it as a contour, it lasted all day.  It comes with a little kabuki brush which is OK and much better than bare Minerals brushes, but I'd say use your own - something like a Real Techniques Buffing Brush would give you a much more flawless finish.

terre d'Oc Gloss Sublime Shine Lip Gloss in 302 Rose Ubud (5ml, £14.95, link)*

I love these lip glosses - they are non-sticky, have lots of shine, and great pigmentation.  I find them really moisturising on the lips due to the amount of coconut butter used in the formula and the teeny mother of pearl particles, give off a lovely shimmer.  I also find them relatively long lasting for a lip gloss and they have a nice cherry type flavour.  Rose Ubud is a delicate rosy pink which is an easy to wear, girly colour.  Love it!  You can also see my review of the shade 303 Peche Panji here.

terre d'Oc Powder Eye Shadow in 503 Terre Lumiere Jaipur (3g, £12.95, link)*

At the event, I was immediately drawn to these Powder Eye Shadows which come in a unique drop style bottle inspired by traditional India bindis.  Sadly, it's this style of packaging which makes it super messy to use (as you can see in the photo above, it gets everywhere the minute you take off the lid), but on the positive side, the eye shadow itself is beautiful.  It features a blend of pomegranate, rice and calendula powders combined with mother of pearl and shea covered mica.  The shade I have is called Terre Lumiere Jaipur which is a neutral gold with lots of shimmer - one of those shades that's just really easy to wear and surprisingly is subtle enough for everyday.

Without a primer the wear time was excellent and stayed put for around 7/8 hours, but I would recommend layering this over an eye primer if you want to bring out a more intense shade, or simply apply it using a damp brush.

Do you use terre d'Oc make-up?

  3. I'm a HUGE fan of the brand after we got the lip gloss in an Amarya box. I love the brands whole philosophy too and the packaging is beautiful (but messy like you said!) x

    1. I love it too - they're such an interesting brand, especially with how they view the world and respect the environment and different cultures. It was fascinating learning about their ethos at the event! I do love the look of the packaging but it is very messy, perhaps a little tweak in redesigning the lids and sifter might be an idea for the future x

  5. Love the lipgloss colour. The shade I got in an Amarya box is really dark so I don't wear it often but they do feel lovely on the lips.

  6. Great review I was tempted by the mineral foundation but I will stick to my lilylolo for the packaging and shade range. I have one of the eyeshadows and lots of the lipgloss colours I like the eyeshadow a lot and sometimes also use it as a highlight too but because of the packaging I wouldn't go out of my way to pick up more of these.

    1. Yeah I was disappointed by the mineral powder foundation shade range when I swatched all three at the event - I seem to be in between shades which is always annoying, so I think the new BB creams would be a better match for me. I do feel that the packaging needs to be redesigned a bit because it's very messy to use sadly x
