Hair Review: Choppin' Block, Telford with Groupon

Saturday 16 March 2013

Last weekend, I travelled down to the Choppin' Block beauty salon in Wellington, Telford for a long overdue haircut.  Groupon*, the online retailer which offers consumers a range of bargain deals on pretty much everything (from electrical goods, days out and holidays, to gift ideas and hair and beauty treatments), very kindly offered me the chance to review one of their beauty deals, so I opted to try out a haircut at the Choppin' Block.  It's a mini road trip away from where I live, but as I was meeting up with friends in nearby Shrewsbury the same weekend, I thought it would be a good idea to give it a go!

Photos: (1) Shopfront, (2) Can you spot the adorable springer spaniel?!  He was so sweet!, (3) Reception area and front of hair salon, (4) Ultra relaxing wash chairs complete with electronic back massagers, lovely!

Choppin' Block is a hair, nail and beauty salon that brings to mind the saying 'don't judge a book by its cover'.  The front of the shop looks like your average, highstreet hairdressers, but inside, it's completely modernized with pretty accent wall decors, bright lights, large mirrors, big comfortable black leather chairs, and spotlessly clean wooden flooring.

As part of the Groupon deal, I'd booked in for a cut and finish with an intensive treatment by a stylist - all for the bargain price of just £12 (saving a whopping 72% off the full price!).  To purchase the deal, I simply registered with Groupon, clicked buy, and then I received an online voucher with a unique code that you mention when you book the appointment.  Simples!

My hairstylist was called Kim and we discussed what I wanted to get done.  I had contemplated getting a side fringe, but in the end, I decided just to get about an inch and a half off the length and some layers put in to frame my face better.  Once that was all agreed, she washed my hair with the in-house Vidal Sasson products, gave me a lovely head massage, and applied the intensive conditioning treatment, before sitting me down and starting with the scissors.

Kim was lovely and friendly throughout, engaging in the usual amiable hairdresser chit chat and she offered me complimentary tea and coffee.  After the cut and checking that I was happy, she asked me what finish I'd like, and I asked her for a straight blow dry with a shine serum to get that super sleek look.

I'm very happy with the end result and would certainly go back if I find myself in that neck of the woods again.  Along with unisex hairdressing, Choppin' Block also have facilities for a wide range of beauty treatments including manicures, pedicures (normal and the ones with those little fish!), aromatherapy massages, reflexology treatments, facials, tanning, hair removal with waxing and electrolysis, body contour wraps, indian head massages, make-up lessons, eyelash and eyebrow tints/shaping, and special wedding and pamper packages.  Phew!  Have a look at the Choppin' Block for more info & booking details.

Huge thanks to Groupon for asking me to review a beauty deal for them and to Kim & all the lovely staff at the Choppin' Block!

  1. Your new hair looks lovely, really sleek and healthy!
I have such a phobia of hairdressers, I've never thought of booking through Groupon! I might have a look and see if there's anything local and get my mum to hold my hand...

  6. You look great -- and what a beautiful little salon! I have never cheated on my hairstylist (=P) but I think I would do this for a blow dry or a light trim.

    1. It is a lovely little salon :) Sadly my hairstylist of 6 years recently moved abroad so I've been on the hunt for a new one ever since. These deals are definitely ideal for a quick little beauty treat :) x

  10. Your hair looks so healthy and lovely. I tend to go with the same style as you, my hairdresser who I haven't seen in a while (bad me!) says a side fringe softens my features but I hate the outgrowth. Great review btw, xoxo.

    1. Kim said something similar, but I was worried about how annoying it would be to grow it out. I may experiment a bit more next time, but I think style suits me :) xx
