Review: Murad Blemish Treatment Concealer

Murad Blemish Treatment Concealer* (2.5g, £19, link)

If you've ever been troubled by blemishes, you'll probably know that covering them in make-up can often only exasperate the problem.  However, having an unsightly crater of a spot on your face is never pleasant or exactly going to boost your confidence levels either.  Which is where this magic 2-in-1 blemish treatment concealer comes in very handy.  But does it work?

I was kindly sent a Murad Blemish Treatment Concealer to try out and have been putting it to the test for the last few weeks.  It's your standard skinny stick concealer but with an important blemish control difference.  The oil-free formula contains Salicylic Acid, Retinol, and Green Tea Extract which all work together to clear up, soothe away and prevent blemishes.

I've used it on every blemish that has decided to make an appearance on my face recently (luckily there haven't been too many but I have been plagued by a few particularly annoying ones on my chin!) and can say that I've found this to really help.  It's not an instant miracle worker, in that it took a little while to completely heal the blemishes (around 5-7 days of regular use seems to totally clear them up), but it definitely seems to be doing something positive because no new ones have shown up since.

Murad's Blemish Treatment Concealer comes in two shades; light and medium.  Medium is the one that I picked and this suits my light olive complexion well, but it can look a bit orangey if you apply too much or don't blend it enough.  It goes on smoothly, feels light, creamy, non-drying, and has a light-medium amount of coverage.

None of the blemishes I applied it to were particularly red, but if they had been, I don't think this would completely cover them up on its own.  The only downside I experienced was that it lasted on my oily/combination skin for only around 2-3 hours before I needed to reapply, but I'm used to topping up my concealer throughout the day so it wasn't too much trouble for me personally.

Worth the price?

Whilst I do really like this concealer and will happily continue to use it up, I feel I have to comment on the price.  Having used the Witch version of this, I didn't see any noticeable differences between the two in terms of how well it conceals, and the Witch concealer comes in at only £4.99.  However, the main difference comes down to the key ingredients used for the treatment of blemishes, so it depends on what your skin likes more/reacts better to.

If you get blemishes, do you use a treatment concealer like this or just a regular one?

    1. The Witch one is a great budget buy - well worth trying for less than a fiver! x

  2. I've been looking at this for awhile now. I thought it would be a good investment. I mean a concealer that can heal blemishes, that's just what I need. I can justify the price because I think of it as two products in one.
I do still want to try it out. I've heard of witch products before maybe once or twice, are they a UK brand?

    1. That's a really good way of looking at it because it is effectively two products in one, so if you consider how much a decent spot treatment item would cost AND a good concealer it's not too bad.

IIRC Witch are a UK brand - the concealer from them I was referring to is this one:-http://www.boots.com/en/Witch-Concealer_983028/ xx

  6. I've never heard of this brand Witch! I've never played with treating concealers, I always just layered my treatment under my coverup. This looks like it might be too orange for my seriously olive skin, but I'm so attracted to 2-in-1 products!

    1. I think Witch are a UK brand, though I have seen their products on a few US blogs! I've often just done the same with layering, though I find some concealers slip/slide a bit too much over some anti-blemish treatments, so it's nice to have one product that does it all :)

  7. Hi i just came across your very informative blog :)
Hm i'm considering buying this but there's dimethicone in the ingredients list, which is known to cause acne. so it sorta defeats the purpose!
still trying to find the best anti-blemish concealer... got any recommendations?

    1. I'm not sure if the Witch version of this contains dimethicone but if it doesn't, you could try that? I prefer it to this Murad one!
