Meet the £80 Eye Cream - Radical Skincare Eye Revive Cream

Friday 19 April 2013

I'm incredibly fickle when it comes to eye creams.  If I use one up and can't see any noticeable differences, then I'll just switch to another brand and so on.  There are a lot of eye creams which I've tried that I like a lot, but not one that I ultimately love.  So what's my verdict on this latest one I've been trialling?

Although I'm only in my mid-twenties, I already have some fine lines underneath my eyes and have always had problems with dark circles and discolouration.  Whether it's through not getting enough sleep, genetics, diet, or simply staring at screens 24/7, I've come to accept that these fine lines and everything else are here to stay.  Over the years, I've experimented with many eye creams, but have yet to find my holy grail one.  So when I was offered to try out a sample of Radical Skincare's Eye Revive Cream*, I happily decided to give it a go.

Radical's Eye Revive Cream is an all in one anti-aging eye contour which aims to hydrate, reduce puffiness, decrease discolouration and dark circles, and dimish wrinkle depth by up to 50% in 4 weeks.  Those are some pretty impressive claims to make and it comes with an equally impressive price tag of £80 for the full size 15ml.

Here's what I thought after using this for around 4 weeks:-

Hydrating:  Definitely.  The texture of this eye cream is divine; it's rich and feels thick, yet light at the same time.  When you apply it you only need a small amount, and it glides on and feels silky smooth, blending like a dream.  It has a fresh scent that reminds me of cucumbers and I haven't had any issues with dryness around my eyes since using this.

Reducing puffiness: Agreed.  My eyes are always quite puffy first thing in the morning and this helped to soothe them and make me look much more awake than I normally do.

Decreasing discolouration & dark circles:  Not really.  I didn't see any noticeable changes in this area.  It has some kind of brightening quality to it which you can see when you first apply it, but it's not long lasting.

Diminishing wrinkle depth:  As I don't have severe wrinkles, I can't really comment as mine fall more into the fine lines category, but I didn't see any changes for myself.  The eye cream does work as an excellent smooth base to apply concealer over the top, which certainly helped to disguise that they're there though.

Summary
I can't dispute that this is a high quality and simply lovely eye cream.  It hydrates and de-puffs the eye area beautifully and is a pleasure to use.  However, as mentioned above, I didn't see any differences in my dark circles or fine lines being reduced in 4 weeks.  I will use the rest of the sample and make a final thoughts comment in a future empties post.

Radical Skincare Eye Revive Cream is available from Space NK and Harrods.

  1. I know £80 seems a lot for an eye cream but if the price reflects the results & ingredients then I'd happily pay it. Most eye creams are 15ml so I'd compare this as costing £40 against other eye creams which isn't too bad. I'm looking for a new eye cream at the moment and nearly spent £75 on a 15ml Zelens eye cream. I will look into this one too :)

    1. I agree, if you find one that works for you then it's a good investment, especially as you get double the amount of product with this than the usual 15mls. I also found that a little goes a long way with this so that's always something to bear in mind when justifying cost too. Definitely have a look at it :)

  3. I'm looking for a new eye cream, I don't mind paying that little bit more if its going to work as so far, I've probably spent £100+ on eye creams which have done ZILCH! :( I'll definitely look into this one, thanks Evelyn!

  4. Wow £80 seems extortionate for me but if you're using a little at a time it would last you and if you find an eye cream that works with your skin type then its a bonus :) At the moment I'm using boots time delay eyecream which I like for de puffing x

  6. It certainly seems like it this eye cream could be worth a try but I'm not sure I could pay £80 for an eye cream. At the moment I'm using Liz Earle Daily Eye Repair and Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Eye - I like them both but not sure they're the best thing for me long term.

  8. Hi Evelyn,

£80 I think is too expensive for an eye cream, because of the high price you're not going to want to use much so it lasts longer. I tend to use my face creams around my eye area and don't really tend to buy into the whole 'eye cream' market. Is this eye cream a chemical or natural brand?
I think that an SPF is most important to use around the eye area. I usually use the Vaishaly Day Moisturiser SPF15 (dry/sensitive) as my day cream and it can also be used around the eye area. Unfortunately it's out of stock at the moment so I am using Aurelia Day Moisturiser with Luzern Laboratories la defence SPF30 on top as this can also be used around the eye area. I highly recommend you start to incorporate an SPF around your eyes if you aren't already to prevent any further fine lines from developing xx

    1. I agree, it's definitely out of my budget too. I've tried using face creams around my eye contours but because my face is oily/combination and my under eyes dry, they don't really match for me, so I've always just bought a separate eye cream.

Radical skincare is pretty high-tech stuff so mostly chemical with some natural components, the ingredients for this eye cream are:-

Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Glyceryl Stearate, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract, Cetyl Alcohol, Squalane, Coffea Arabica (Coffee) Seed Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cetearyl Alcohol, Butylene Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Ceteareth-20, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, Xanthan Gum, Stearoxytrimethylsilane, Hydrolyzed Oat Protein, Alumina, Lanolin Oil, Allantoin, Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Oil, Dimethiconol, Stearyl Alcohol, Parfum (Fragrance), Disodium Adenosine Triphosphate, Niacinamide, Ethylhexylglycerin, Steareh-20, Hesperidin Methyl Chalcone, Pentylene Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Sodium Benzoate, Citric Acid, Malachite Extract, Spilanthes Acmella Flower Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Malus Domestica Fruit Cell Culture Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Vine Extract, Sodium Citrate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Chlorhexidine Digluconate, Leuconostoc / Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Propylene Glycol, N-Hydroxysuccinimide, Dipeptide-2, Lecithin, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Chrysin, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Biotin, Hydroxycitronellal, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde.

I will definitely start looking into an eye cream with SPF - no idea why I haven't already got one! xx

  9. £80 for 15ml is certainly steep! But if something works for you and you can't find a comparable substitute for cheaper, then I suppose why not. I haven't really ventured that far into trying out eye creams though I am around the same age as you. I don't think expensive equates with the best or even good, but results will speak for themselves. Hopefully you start to see even better results when you've used all of the product up :)

    1. Definitely, it's all about finding one that works for you. I've tried samples of other very pricey and high-tech eye creams in the past and haven't noticed much of a difference between those and much cheaper brands x

  10. This sounds really good and if it works for you, go for it. I love Lierac Diopticalm Antifatigue and it's the only one I've noticed a difference right away!xx
