Dr Organic Moroccan Argan Oil Hair Treatment Serum (100ml, £14.99, link)

Since hair oils erupted onto the beauty scene a few years ago, I've found myself trying out my fair share of them.  Everything from the blended ones, the properly pure ones and the ones in between; you name it, I've probably tried it.  Macadamia Oil has been my HG favourite, but will this one from Dr Organic finally steal its crown?

Answer: YES!

I was hoping that this would be good, but I really wasn't expecting it to be better than my beloved Macadamia Oil.  Let's have a closer look at my new Hair Oil champion.

Dr Organic Moroccan Argan Oil Hair Treatment Serum is a blended hair oil, with Organic  Argan Oil being the most dominant.  Due to the Clove Leaf Oil in the formula, it has a spicy, exotic scent and I can detect some notes of Patchouli and Cinnamon in there too.  Whilst I like it, others might find it a little strong, so I'd recommend popping into your local Holland & Barrett and having a sniff before buying it.  It comes packaged in a beautiful glass bottle which makes it look a lot more expensive than its RRP.

The texture of this is very much like a typical serum and you only need to use a tiny amount (I love the pump applicator because it seems to dispense just the right amount each time; for my long hair, I'll use two pumps worth through the ends and lengths).  When applied to either towel-dried or dry hair, it will leave it incredibly silky soft.  It also eliminates frizz like a dream, so I love using it with my straightners for that poker straight, sleek finish.  One of the best things about it, is that you barely notice that it's in your hair; it's that light and weightless.  Sometimes I find the Macadamia Oil a bit too heavy every now and then, so the Dr Organic is perfect for me.  I also think that the price is fantastic!

A quick note about the ingredients
Now then, although this is mainly a natural product and is free from parabens, SLS, artificial colours, fragrances and harsh preservatives, the first two ingredients are cyclopentasiloxane and dimethiconol which are both silicones, and its those that produce the smooth, almost velvety/silky feel to the hair.  After some online research, it seems like cyclopentasiloxane is a very light silicone that helps to spread the other ingredients over the hair, and it evaporates quickly so as not to form any buildup.  I haven't personally had any problems, or any issues with buildup, which is why I love it, but everyone's hair is different.

Have you tried this?

  7. This product has worked wonders for my fly away hair. I have several products from the Dr O range from toothpaste to facial serum and they are all great. The Rose facial oil is fantastic and has really made a difference to the dreaded fine lines beginning to creep in.

  9. I discovered this a few weeks ago and it's fantastic stuff!! Makes my frizzy, damaged, dry and over-dyed hair behave beautifully. I get silky smooth hair and I love the smell. Plus I only need to apply a tiny amount so it will last for ages! Very happy! On the downside I tried the shampoo and conditioner from the same range and was not impressed - seemed to make my hair more dry. Can you recommend a shampoo and conditioner?

    1. So happy to hear you're a fan too Kay! I haven't tried any other Dr Organic haircare so thanks for the heads up on that. Personally, I'm loving YUKO at the moment (they have a wonderful leave-in conditioner that I reviewed recently here) which is one I'd recommend trying. I generally don't use anti-frizz formulations for my shampoo & conditioner as I find them too drying - I'd go for a more gentle, repairing range instead, YUKO are fab!
