Faking the Ombre Trend with I&K Dip Dye Hair Extensions

Sunday 5 May 2013

I'm having a girly catch up with some friends this weekend which always results in the following; plenty of good food, too much booze (if such a thing exists!), and of course some dedicated playtime with all things hair & make-up.  I've admired the ombre trend from afar ever since it sprang up years ago, but after one too many hair colouring disasters from my teen years, I decided to keep mine au naturel.  However, my curiosity eventually got the better of me, and I decided it was time to experiment with some hair extensions.

I&K Dip Dye Clip-In Straight Hair Extensions in Darkest Brown/Auburn* (£69.99, link)

I went for the ones above which are from I&K, as I was really impressed by the quality of the faux-fringe I tried by them a few months ago.  In the pack you get enough clip-in extensions to do a full head (10 clip in pieces in total: 2 large, 2 medium, 6 single and 2 spare pieces without clips), and they are 100% human hair.

I'm something of a novice when it comes to applying hair extensions, but found these relatively easy to do by myself by following Hairtrade's How To video here.  Once the 2 large pieces are put into the right places properly, the rest is easy peasy.  The clips were very secure and discreet too so there were no problems there!

Clipped straight in, no styling

The finished look after straightening & styling

Once the extensions are clipped in, they feel just like your own hair and you can style them as such.  I'm happy with the results that these give and think they look pretty cool!  I'm not sure whether I would choose to dye my hair like this permanently, but it's definitely something I would wear when I fancied a change.

  1. Such a good idea, much better than damaging your hair to try out a look! I've not dyed my hair for 6months, and as much as I like the look, I'm not prepared to bleach my hair plus if I wore extensions they'd not match my hair texture at all x

    1. Yeah bleaching it is probably the worst thing you can ever do to your hair - mine took ages to recover back to a healthy state when I used to bleach mine years ago x
