Review & Swatches: Benecos Natual Mascara Maximum Volume in Deep Black & Natural Concealer in Beige

Friday 31 May 2013

As I'm getting ready to go to Germany in about 16 hours (holiday here I come!), I thought it would be rather appropriate for my last post to be a review of some Benecos make-up I was kindly sent earlier in the month.  Benecos are a German natural beauty brand who have recently launched their extensive range in the UK, and I think they will appeal to both natural beauty lovers and budget beauty fans alike.

Benecos Natural Mascara Maximum Volume in Deep Black* (8ml, £6.95, link)

If you saw my recent post on mascaras that I'm currently using (here), you'll know that I haven't had the best of luck with finding a decent natural mascara.  Well, this one from Benecos is the forefront winner so far!  As you can see below, the pigmentation is fantastic, offering a deep glossy black which is something a lot of natural mascaras seem to struggle with.  It lengthens like a dream and adds a bit of volume too.

It's not waterproof (but doesn't claim to be either), but it holds pretty well throughout the day and I haven't had any issues with flaking or smudging.  The only slight downside with this is that the formula is quite wet so it takes a little longer than usual to fully dry.  It's also a touch on the clumpy side which you can see above, but nothing that a lash comb can't handle.  All in all though, I'm impressed!  For a natural mascara, this is the best I've tried so far and it's very affordable too.

Benecos Natural Concealer in Beige* (5ml, £6.95, link)

With the success of the mascara, I was excited to try out the concealer.  My first impressions were great; this looks and feels like an exact dupe for my beloved Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer.  It has a fluffier doe-foot applicator which helps to spread the product much more evenly, and coverage wise, it's the same as Collection - a decent medium level which conceals blemishes a treat.  Unfortunately though, there's where the comparisons must end.  This concealer has two big problems for me.  Firstly, it dries insanely fast.  You know how Benefit's Benetint / Cha Cha Tint dries crazy fast?  This concealer is the same, which makes it almost impossible to blend properly.  Secondly, the Beige shade above oxidises after a few hours and becomes more orange than beige.  Not a good look sadly, so this was such a let down after my initial good impressions of it.

Summary: Thumbs up for the mascara, but sadly thumbs down for the concealer.  I'm intrigued to try out more of the range though, so I'll have a good play with the products when I'm in Germany and let you know how it goes.

  1. The mascara looks great - much better than some of the other natural ones I've been trying out! I'm just reviewing a few Benecos products for my blog today. I've got the eyeliner, lipstick and blush. So far the lipstick has really stood out for me!

Hope you have a great time in Germany :)
