Tried & Tested: Viridian Ulitmate Beauty Complex & Beauty Oil + Vegancity Kelp Supplements

Wednesday 29 May 2013

Most people know that the secret to healthy looking skin, nails and hair is to eat a clean diet, stop smoking and drinking, always wear sunscreen and drink your eight glasses of water a day.  It's not rocket science when you think about it, is it?  Whilst I try (sometimes) to do all of the above, it's not always easy when you have work/uni deadlines, invitations for free cocktails from generous friends, and cravings for a naughty Chinese takeaway at the weekend!  One way to give your body back some TLC is to take supplements, and I've been recently trialling some from Viridian and Vegancity.

Viridian 100% Organic Ultimate Beauty Oil* (200ml, £9.50, link - Suitable for Vegans)
I've always been aware of the health benefits of things like olive oil, but I've never tried a product like this before.  Ultimate Beauty Oil is an organic, cold pressed, blended formula consisting of Golden Flaxseed, Hemp, Avocado, Evening Primrose and Pumpkin Seed Oils.  Combined together, they provide a rich source of Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, as well as a broad range of antioxidants such as lutein and alpha-carotene which help keep skin, hair and nails healthy and happy.

To use, you simply take 2-3 teaspoons daily with food.  The oil can be drizzled on salads, blended into smoothies, used in condiments etc, or you can take it directly from the spoon.  I've been enjoying it as a dressing on salads, and it has a slightly nutty taste to it.  I'd recommend this Beauty Oil to anyone who forgets to take supplements everyday, as it can be a lot easier to incorporate into meals, especially if you keep it in the kitchen.

Viridian Ultimate Beauty Complex* (30 capsules, £9.50, link - Suitable for Vegans)
In addition to the above Ultimate Beauty Oil, you can take these Ultimate Beauty Complex capsules, or they can be taken on their own.  The capsules consist of a combination of essential vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients to maintain healthy collagen production and to strengthen and support the structures for healthy skin, hair and nails.  They're easy to swallow, and are free from gluten, wheat, lactose, added sugar, salt, yeast, preservatives and artificial colourings.  Recommended usage is 2 capsules a day with food. You can also read this Viridian Beauty Complex review for a second opinion!

Vegancity Kelp 300mg* (120 tablets, £2.75, link - Suitable for Vegans
Like oils, I've repeatedly heard positive statements about the health benefits of taking kelp supplements so I was eager to give these a go.  Kelp is a natural source of iodine, a constituent of thyroxine, which may help to maintain a normal metabolism (so it's good for weight control and energy production).  Iodine is also needed to maintain healthy, radiant skin, so it's a good one to choose if you want both of those benefits.  The kelp tablets are round and don't have any coating, but they're small enough to swallow with water. without too much difficulty.  Recommended usage is 1-2 tablets with food.

Do they work?
For the purposes of this review, I trialled these supplements separately, taking the Viridian ones in conjunction.  In the course of 15 days, I noticed an improvement in the overall strength of my nails and hair by using the Viridian Ultimate Beauty Oil & Complex capsules.  Whilst the improvement was only minor, it was still noticeable enough for me, so I'll be picking up some more of the capsules and will continue to take the oil with meals to see if the results progress even further with time.

Regarding the Vegancity Kelp tablets, I haven't yet seen a noticeable improvement during a month, but I'm going to finish the rest of the bottle as I've read a lot of reviews saying kelp can take longer to have an effect on the body.  Will update this post in the future with my final thoughts so keep an eye out for that if you're interested!

  3. I like to eat healthy and all of the above but I do tend to integrate with supplements from time to time. I haven't tried this range yet and price is not bad either. Great post! x
