The Weekend Post: Bon Jovi, Kaiser Chiefs and Bush in Hyde Park #BST

Sunday 7 July 2013

On Friday, I headed down to London for one of the Barclaycard British Summer Time Concerts in Hyde Park.  The headline act was Bon Jovi, supported by Bush and the Kaiser Chiefs.  And the weather was glorious.  Bring on the Pimms!

I've been to Hyde Park a couple of times and it's one of my favourite places to visit in London.  The open green spaces are so inviting for picnics, and it's just a perfect place to spend an afternoon under the sun.  When a music event is on though, the park really comes alive, with thousands of people flooding through the entrance.

Now, usually when you think of a festival, images of disgusting, broken portaloos, mud, and food poisoning can spring to mind, but not at Hyde Park.  Events here are most definitely more upmarket;  you've got clean flushing toilets, champagne on ice, and food stalls selling a whole array of dishes to suit everyone's tastes.  Let me just say, it's a bizzare spectacle watching a group of men in suits fist pump to Bon Jovi.  Honestly, it has to be seen to be believed!

Onto the music - Bush played first and were fantastic.  Jenna and I screamed our little hearts out whilst simultanousely drooling over Gavin Rossdale.  He still looks as grunge as ever, not bad for a guy who's nearly 50!  Kaiser Chiefs followed shortly afterwards, and when they had finished, we decided to have a wander around the park.

Benefit had a cool stall with their MUAs giving advice and makeovers, as well as promoting several of their new products.  In the park, there was also a mini fun fayre going on with a helter skelter and some rides too, but it was time for us to pick up some food!

I forgot to take a photo of my dinner, but I opted for a delicious Pesto Calzone from a little Italian stall, and Jenna headed straight to the Smoked Salmon stand.  Next to that was a little tent selling all sorts of different flavoured gourmet popcorn by Joe & Seph's.  This stuff is so moreish!  We munched our way through a Caramel & Sea Salt bag while we waited for Bon Jovi to come on stage.

Finally, Bon Jovi were here and we fangirled like maniacs through all the classic songs and almost cried when they sung Always (well we were pretty drunk on Pimms by this point in the evening!).  The set lasted around 3 hours and was a good mix of old and new songs to please everyone.  It's safe to say we had a great time!

*Our tickets for this event were complimentary - thank you Ana!

  1. Normally festivals don't appeal to me but this looks a lot better and more relaxed. The Benefit stall is pretty cool too!
