Currently Loving: Lyonsleaf 100% Natural Beauty Balm and Healing Blend Calendula Cream

Thursday 5 December 2013

Natural brands are continuing to boom in Britain and show no signs of slowing down.  Lyonsleaf is one such company run by a husband and wife team, whose handmade products are created on their own farm in the stunning Mendip Hills.

One of the unique selling points of Lyonsleaf is that their products are created without water (which is pretty amazing when you look at the ingredients lists of most beauty items in your average bathroom; water or 'aqua' is usually the first or second thing you see!).  Using waterless formulas means that the products can be created without the need for any chemical nasties, as it's these that often cause irritation and breakouts to the skin because they're added simply to stop bacteria forming in the water.  Use a waterless formula instead and thus you don't need to use them anymore.

I was very kindly sent their Beauty Balm and Calendula Cream to try out and couldn't wait to give them a go!
Lyonsleaf Beauty Balm* (55ml, £12.95, link)
Ever the avid fan of multi-purpose products, I absolutely loved this Beauty Balm from the minute I slathered it onto my skin!  This miracle worker can be used as a cleansing balm, moisturiser, and as a general all-purpose balm for dry and chapped skin.  It's packed full of nourishing ingredients such as Organic Shea Butter, Babassu Oil, Organic Macadamia Oil and Sweet Almond Oil (the latter three of which are cold-pressed - always the best way to use these oils IMO).  Combined with those are pure Essential Oils like Palmarosa, Clary Sage, Patchouli and Rosemary.  I've mostly been using this as a cleansing balm and find that it works perfectly with my sensitive, combination skin and would suit all skintypes.  After massaging it into dry skin, I remove it with a warm flannel or muslin cloth, rinse the cloth and repeat until it's all been taken off.  My skin is left feeling soft and clean without a greasy residue, lovely!  The texture is super thick and rich (plus it's non-grainy, always a bonus in my books), so a tiny amount is all that's needed each time you use it ensuring that this deceptively small looking 55ml glass pot will last you a long time.  I honestly can't believe that a balm this good is priced so reasonably and I love the cool packaging.

Lyonsleaf Healing Blend Calendula Cream* (110ml, £14.95, link)
Calendula is well known for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties.  Blended with other skin-loving ingredients like Sweet Almond Oil, Organic Shea Butter and Vitamin E Oil, this cream offers instant relief to eczema, psoriasis and rosacea sufferers, and can help to heal acne as well.  It's incredibly thick and concentrated, so like the Beauty Balm, you only need to use a tiny amount.  Despite it being a thick and rich cream, when used sparingly, it absorbs quickly into the skin with minimal greasiness (if your skin is feeling oily afterwards, you've definitely used too much!).  A small amount covers a large surface area, making it a particularly affordable product to use if your eczema/psoriasis etc isn't designated to one specific spot.  The addition of pure Essential Oils such as Juniper, Frankincense, Lavender and Geranium give the cream an overall herbal scent, but it's one that's more subtle than overpowering IMO.  Vicky Lyons, the co-founder of Lyonsleaf, recommended that I try their Calendula Cream and I'm so happy that she did because it's a fantastic product!

Lyonsleaf products are as natural and as unprocessed as possible.  They are free from all chemical nasties and never use any artificial colours or fragrances.  For the full range of Lyonsleaf products and to find out more about the company, visit lyonsleaf.co.uk

    1. Not sure if they do worldwide shipping, but would imagine that's the only extra cost you'd endure x
