Tried & Tested: Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask

Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask (50ml Pump Starter Kit, £14.25, link)*

Over the past four weeks I have been testing out this Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask.  Say hello to my new 'Monday Morning Quick Fix'.

Liz Earle's Brightening Treatment Mask makes some big claims.  It promises to be 'fast acting', and to deliver 'instant radiance'.  Being a skincare junkie, I am always drawn to such claims but cynical at the same time about anything which markets itself as a 'quick fix'.  Nine times out of ten, quick fixes rarely work and often disappoint instead.

This mask is that one out of ten that really does work in the quick fix department.

Its formula is very similar to Liz Earle's Cleanse & Polish, which you all know I love to bits.  The scent is a bit more herbally, and the colour is darker, but that thick texture is still there.  Like Cleanse & Polish, you apply one or two pumps to dry skin and massage it in, where it then proceeds to melt into the skin rapidly.  I'd recommend getting the pump over the tube, because the pump dispenses just the right amount each time which makes it quick and easy to use.  The Brightening Treatment Mask feels very tingly on the skin, that sensation which you always associate with something 'working'.  It's not an uncomfortable tingling for me, but I think it would be too much for those with sensitive skin (and Liz Earle does recommend that this is not suitable for those with sensitive skintypes).

One of the key ingredients in the mask is aloe vera which I have a sensitivity to, so I was worried that this was going to break me out or make my skin very unhappy.  As a precaution, I left it on for the least amount of time recommended, thirty seconds (max time is two minutes), and I didn't have a problem with it.  This may be because it has so many other natural active ingredients combined, such as witch hazel, sweet almond oil, white clay, green mineral silt etc.

I rinsed it off with a muslin cloth soaked in hand-hot water and my, oh my!  My face looked instantly brighter, I was amazed!

To make sure this wasn't some freak, one-off incident, I trialled it once a week for the past four weeks and each time I used it, my face looked brighter and more awake.

I now call this my Monday Morning Quick Fix because it really does deliver a quick fix and make me look more awake first thing on a Monday morning.  Which let's face it, if you've overindulged over the weekend, then you'll probably need it too!

Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask is available as a starter kit (with a zipped travel pouch and a muslin cloth), or it can be bought separately as a 50ml pump or tube.  You can also purchase it as a trial size 15ml tube with a muslin cloth.  Visit Liz Earle for more info.

Have you tried this?  What are your favourite brightening quick fixes?

  4. Liz Earle is one of my faves for skincare! I really like the sound of this mask but I have really sensitive skin so it's a no-no for me :( their nourishing mask is absolutely great for me though, you've reminded me I need to pick up another tube ;) Superdrug's Vitamin E oil gives me really radiant skin (and it's dirt cheap!) xxx

  5. I used to use this a few years back and totally agree with you. It really does work! I always mixed it with Cleanse & Polish to save time in the mornings and it still had the same effect.

  9. I remember using Liz Earle products yeeeeeears ago when she only sold through QVC! I think all her products are great but I don't like that they brand themselves as "natural and organic" when their products are full of the same junk you find in everyone elses e.g. parabens etc. Adding a few herbs does not make an "organic" brand! *rant over*

    1. I remember my mum buying them from QVC too! I don't think Liz Earle brands itself as an organic brand as such. I think a lot of 'naturalness' about Liz Earle's products comes from the fact that they use naturally active ingredients, but yes, they do use preservatives such as parabens which I know a lot of people are avoiding nowadays. Have you emailed them about their usage? A lot of brands are switching to paraben / nasties free formulas these days due to consumer demand, so I do hope Liz Earle will be one to follow the likes of others.
