5 Mini Reviews: balance Me, Weleda, Burt's Bees, Juice Beauty & Lush

Thursday 13 September 2012

5 Mini Reviews is going to be a new series I'll be posting on here.  Every now and again, I'll randomly pick 5 sample products from my overflowing Wonder Woman tin, use them up and then share my thoughts on each one (similar to Sandra's recent samples posts but on a more irregular basis!).  Simples!

(1) balanceMe Moisture Rich Face Cream
This was a lovely thick face cream that had a subtle floral scent to it.  I used it up as a night cream (it's technically for normal to dry/sensitive skin so my oily/combination skin appreciated it more at nighttime) and it left my face feeling very soft in the morning.  I'd definitely recommend trying this out if you have dry skin because I bet it'll work wonders for you.

(2) Weleda Pomegranate Firming Eye Cream
When it comes to eye creams I often have the mindset that the thicker the formula the better it will be.   But I know that's not always true and sometimes using a very thick eye cream can cause your eyes to look even more puffier/tired than they were before.  Case in point, this Weleda eye cream is very light so it absorbs into the undereye area quickly, but it also hydrates it really well too.  This is a great option for those who like to use an eye cream in the morning before applying concealer like I do, and it makes a great base for that.

(3) Juice Beauty Cleansing Milk
Cleansers are always hard to review from a one use sample point of view, so I'll just briefly mention that I thought this was a pretty average cleansing milk to start with.  It removed around half of my make-up and struggled to get rid of any waterproof mascara or eyeliner.  IMO Purity's Conditioning Cleansing Lotion performs much better than this one.

(4) Burt's Bees Almond Milk & Beeswax Hand Cream
Oh my!  The scent of this is just incredible!  I used this at night because it's such a thick and greasy hand cream (which I'm usually not a fan of), but when it did eventually absorb into my skin, it left my hands feeling super soft in the morning.  However, I still prefer my beloved L'Occitane Shea Butter one more, but I do LOVE the scent of this.

(5) Lush Superbalm Hair Treatment
Superbalm is one of Lush's new haircare products and it's an intensive treatment for those with dry and irritated scalps.  The scent is a refreshing herbal type one which is nice, but sadly this just didn't do anything for me.  The formula is very thick and when you apply it, it comes across as very sticky too, but you only need to use the tiniest amount so it's not too bad.  I used it as directed by the SA which meant leaving it on for 15-20 minutes (wrap your head in a towel or turban to help it work better), and then apply your regular shampoo before using any water (otherwise the balm acts as a barrier ).  I had to wash my hair three times to get rid of it and after drying it, it still felt like there was lots still on my head!  After washing it twice the day after, it finally got rid of all of it and at the end of the day, it didn't seem to do anything for me anyway.  Definitely get a sample of this first if you want to try it for yourself.

Have you tried any of these products?

  2. I'm looking for a good light eye cream, something unscented. The skin around my eyes is so sensitive and can get quite dry..I get afraid wrinkles will appear sooner rather than later.. Any help???

By the way I had the Balance Me face wash sample in a magazine and I found it's nothing special and overly scented!
It's great that you do reviews on lots of samples rather than single products :)

    1. The Weleda one above sounds almost perfect for you, but it does have a very subtle pomegranate scent to it. I'd recommend trying something by Clinique which are all unfragranced?

I've got a sample of that Balance Me face wash too but haven't tried it yet. Glad you liked reading this post! :)

    1. I see quite a few people saying that, they do seem to be one of those brands that can sometimes be forgotten about, but I do like a lot of their products, especially their lip balms! The Almond Milk & Beeswax hand cream would be great for winter xx

  9. At first I thought the smell of the Burt's Bees Almond Milk & Beeswax Hand Cream was so weird but I've grown to love it - I love heavy smelling products. I just can't get over how greasy and sticky it is though, even if I used it at night!

    1. I know, I wasn't expecting it to be so greasy! I found that if I used just a tiny amount, then it would eventually soak in and leave my hands soft, but if I used too much, it would kinda just sit on the top and feel icky :(
