My 7 Winter Skin Saviours

Thursday 18 October 2012

Although technically it's not winter until December, I'm sure you'll all agree with me that it's getting very cold, especially in the evenings now.  If you're looking to stockpile some beauty products that will keep your skin happy in this weather, then look no further.  I've picked 7 of my favourite winter skin saviours that I reach for the most often at this time of the year:-

(1) JASON Hydrating Hemp Pure Natural Hand & Body Lotion* (link)
When I was first going through my insane collection of body lotions, I automatically went for The Body Shop's Hemp Body Butter, but then I put that down and reached for JASON's version instead.  Whilst I do love TBS' Hemp range, their body butter and hand creams are very thick, and they can be feel very greasy.  JASON's Hydrating Hemp Hand & Body Lotion provides all the moisturising benefits of hemp, but it soaks into the skin straight away and doesn't feel greasy at all.  I much prefer the scent of JASON's too.

(2) LUSH Dream Cream (link)
I've mentioned this pot of skin soothing, magical goodness so many times before and it's something that I always repurchase, especially at this time of the year.  It's just always worked so well at treating my eczema flare ups and really hydrates my skin all day.  And a tub of it seems to be last for absolutely ages!

(3) LUSH Lemony Flutter (link)
Another LUSH product that I've used for years is their Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter.  You might be wondering why on earth I would ever need such a large tub of cuticle butter but it's actually a wonderful multi-purpose product that can be used on any dry areas like heels, feet, elbows and even as an intensive lip balm at night.  It's very thick, and the smallest amount goes such a long way so it's great value for money.

(4) Essential Care Organic Calendula Balm* (link)
If you've tried LUSH's Lemony Butter and thought it was too thick for your liking, then I'd recommend Essential Care's Organic Calendula Balm instead.  Like Lemony Butter, this is a fab multi-purpose product that you can use on any dry parts.  The blend of natural herbs helps to repair and heal damaged skin, so it's ideal to use on chapped lips etc.  I find it really useful to apply around my nose when I get a cold because it stops it feel sore and reduces the redness.

(5) Weleda Skin Food* (link)
A true cult beauty product, Weleda's Skin Food has been around since 1926!  Today it's become a firm favourite amongst many celebrities such as Julia Roberts, Alexa Chung, Brooke Shields and Erin O'Connor to name just a few, and I can certainly see why.  Skin Food is a natural, replenishing cream that works like a balm in protecting the skin against the elements, as well as treating dry skin and reviving dehydrated complexions.  It's another fantastic multi-purpose product (can you tell that I love anything multi-purpose?!) that can be used on the face, body and hands.  I mainly use as an intensive hand cream at night because it's so thick and rich and can take a while to sink in.  I also use when I'm at work all day in an over-air conditioned office, because it puts the moisture back into my skin that the A/C sucks out!  It does have a strong herbal scent, but I quite like it.

(6) Steamcream (link)
Steamcream has the most unique texture of any cream I've ever used.  If thick, heavy creams aren't your thing, then definitely check this one out.  It's so light in texture due to the steam infused way that it's created, yet it's so moisturising as well.  It reminds me a lot of LUSH's Dream Cream, but the scent is a bit more subtle.  Again, it's another hard-working multi-purpose product and I love using this one all over after my body after I've gotten out of the shower.

(7) L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream (link)
And last but not least, no winter skin saviour post could be complete without a mention to my favourite hand cream in the whole world, L'Occitane's Shea Butter Hand Cream.  If you have dry hands, then you have to try this out.  The formula is so lovely and it sinks straight into the skin.  Currently a magazine freebie with Marie Claire this month!

Have you tried any of these?

  1. The JASON Hand & Body Lotion is brilliant! I have the vanilla version and love how it sinks in straight away but still really moisturises.

L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream is my favourite too. Really don't know why I didn't try it sooner!

    1. I like the scent of Charity Pot more than Dream Cream, it's a lovely body lotion but I find Dream Cream is a bit more moisturising for my super dry skin. I don't think I've tried Steamcream on my face, but I'll have to give it a go :) x
