Review: Bumble and Bumble Mending Masque

Bumble and Bumble Mending Masque (150ml, £29, link)*

I abuse my poor hair far too much with blow drying and hair straighteners, so I always reach for a repairing hair treatment once a week in an attempt to make it happy again.  For the last few weeks I've been testing out this one by Bumble and Bumble

Bumble and Bumble's Mending Masque is designed to 'mend' very damaged hair.   Whether it's through too much chemical colouring, perming or straightening, if your hair is damaged, Mending Masque promises to fix it!

The thick formula is based around Pro-Vitamin B5, Phytantriol, Panthenyl Ethyl Ether, Creatine, and a lipid blend (consisting of Linoleic Acid, Cholesterol, Squalane, Phospholipids and Barley and Wheat Germ Extracts).  All of these key ingredients help to hydrate, replenish, smooth, add shine and make hair more resilient against further damage.   As with all of the other Bumble and Bumble products I've tried in the past, this mask is very chemical happy, but when it comes to hair treatments, I really struggle to find natural alternatives that work for me (suggestions are always welcome though!).  It has a very typical mainstream hair product scent but I found it quite subtle.

To apply, it's recommended that you apply it once a week after shampooing, leave it on for 10 minutes, and then rinse it out.  When I tried this, my hair felt soft afterwards, but that was it.  I then tried it on towel dried hair which I wrapped in a turban, and then left it on for 30 minutes.  The results were MUCH more impressive.  My hair was left super manageable, shiny, silky soft and most frizz was eliminated too.

However, over the last few weeks that I've been using it, I can't really say that I've noticed any difference in it repairing my damaged hair or protecting against further damage the way that I see my HG Macadamia Deep Repair Hair Mask working.  For a quick fix, Bumble and Bumble's Mending Masque is a good choice and delivers instant results (when using the 30 minutes turban method), but for the long term, I'd recommend the Macadamia Deep Repair Hair Masque instead which is much cheaper too.

Have you tried this?

  1. My favourite is the John Masters Hair Reconstructor but I'm yet to buy it in full size. I liked the Davines Balm aswell. This sounds good for a quick fix though.

    1. I LOVE the Davines Balm - that's probably my favourite natural hair treatment ever. I haven't tried the John Masters one yet though xx

  2. Interesting review, as I'd been thinking about buying a B&B hair mask. But I want long term results for my very damaged hair.

  3. Good post!
I LOVE Wella hair repair masks! If I'm on a budget though, Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends does the trick! :)

  4. Great review! I always make sure to squeeze most of the water out of my hair before applying hair masks in the shower, too. That's a trick I'm not sure many people do, but it just makes the hair absorb the product better instead of just sitting on all the water! xx

  7. If it weren't for the hefty price tag I'd give it a shot, I always squeeze excess water out of my hair before slapping on any treatment, leaving it under a shower cap, just makes sense to me!
I'm currently switching between the Tresemme Split Mend treatment masque and the Inecto Coconut hair treatment which both leave my hair frizz-free and looking pretty healthy :)

    1. It's definitely the best way to make the most of a hair mask. Love the Inecto one, such a bargain too :) xx

  8. I've never really got on with Bumble & Bumble products. Everything I have tried of theirs has been pretty average. x

  10. I keep finding products that are 'quick fix' rather than long term problem solvers. I've not used a BB product that I've loved....I always think maybe I'm doing something wrong!!x

    1. Yeah I'd recommend using any hair mask for at least 30 minutes and squeezing out all of the water after shampooing before applying it - works much better than the directed instructions! x
