Tag: I Love Drugstore / Highstreet Make-Up

Tuesday 6 November 2012

I spotted this tag over on Beth's blog recently and thought it would be a great idea to do it.  I have to admit that over the last few months, my tastes have been veering towards more high-end make-up, so I hope this tag inspires me to rekindle my love for all things highstreet/drugstore.  There are a lot of beauty bargains to be had out there!

1. What is your favourite drugstore make-up brand?
It has to be Revlon at the moment!  I'm still enamoured with their Lip Butters and love their Kissable Balm Stains too.  Their nail polishes are also superb quality for the price and it's one of those brands that always seems to be in a 3 for 2 offer, making it really affordable to try out new products from them.

2. What are your favourite face, cheek and lip products?
Face: I've yet to find a drugstore foundation that I really like yet, but I do rate Witch's Pressed Powder if you have oily skin.
Cheeks: There are so many great blushers available on the highstreet - I love the ones from Sleek which are super pigmented and I also adore the Bourjois Little Round Pot Blushers.
Lips: Revlon Kissable Balm Stains!  My favourite shade is in Honey because it's so easy to wear for everyday.

3. Least favourite product?
Natural Collection Shine Away Foundation - just awful! Avoid like the plague!

4. What is the best make-up bargain?

Hands down it has to be Collection's Lasting Perfection Concealer - quite simply the best liquid concealer you can buy for under £4.

5. What is your favorite underdog product? (Something you love that often gets overlooked?)
Superdrug's own brand Vitamin E range.  Super cheap and is great for all of your basic toiletries like body lotions, face scrubs etc.

6. A drugstore product that is overpriced?
I'm going to say anything by Boots No7.  Some of their products are great, but their prices have always been a little steep - or maybe that's just because we're so used to getting those £5 off vouchers all the time?!

7. What's the best drugstore dupe?
Sleek Rose Gold Blush for NARS Orgasm - the Sleek version is a tiny bit darker, but it's definitely the best I've come across.

8. Drugstore product that isn't worth the hype?
L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara - everyone seems to love this but me! I loved the pigmentation but found that it flaked a lot and smudged really easily.  Plus the wand got really clumpy after a couple of uses, not good.

  1. I adore drugstore products - possibly more than high end. I really want to try the Collection concealer ... too bad it is not available where I live. Love Revlon - probably my favourite drugstore brand as well :) Bourjois is high up there too!

    1. Revlon and Bourjois are always great! If you ever do a swap with someone in the UK, definitely ask for that Collection concealer - I've repurchased it so many times :)

  2. The Voluminous Carbon Black is such a finicky formula. Sometimes I love it sometimes I don't. Sometimes it's clumpy overload. I think it's a formula that gets better as time passes (as it dries up a little). But it also varies from tube to tube. So troublesome! I've stopped buying it :)

    1. I agree! I had to throw mine out after barely a month of use because the formula went from being a bit wet or drying out super fast :( Needless to say I only bought it once! x
