Currently Using: Cleansers

Tuesday 19 March 2013

As much as I love trying out new skincare, my skin doesn't always agree and tends to reacts badly if I chop and change what I use too often.  That said, if I stick with just using one cleanser for both morning and evening, it doesn't like that much either.  After a lot of trial and error, I've managed to find a good balance, so the following are the cleansers that my oily/combination skin is currently very happy with on a daily basis.

The Morning One
I'm not a morning person at all and spend those first waking moments staggering around bleary eyed and wondering if I can sneak back into bed to capture a few more precious minutes of sleep.  Needless to say, my morning beauty routine is a brief one, so I use Laidbare DIY! Two in One Cleanser & Toner*.  It's quick, easy to use and always leaves my face squeaky clean without being drying.

The Evening Ones
If there's one thing my skin has taught me, it's that it likes a good double cleanse in the evenings.  The first step in this process is to take off the bulk of my make-up with Skin Blossom Organic Bloom Gentle Cleansing Milk.  This is a lovely creamy cleanser that I apply to dry skin and then remove with a either a dampened muslin cloth or cotton wool.  It won't remove stubborn eye make-up, but it takes off everything else with no fuss.

The second and final step is to treat the skin and remove any last traces of make-up.  For this, I use one pump of Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser in either the original formula or the Ltd Ed Rose & Lavender* one.  I've been using Cleanse & Polish for about a year now and I feel that my skin has definitely improved with its usage.

  1. My skin is exactly the same! It definitely doesn't like it if I change my routine too often, but doesn't look great if I just stick to one product all the time. I'd love to try the Laidbare cleanser and toner, sounds perfect for the morning! x

  2. I use micellar water from Superdrug to remove make up and then Elemis Sensitive Cleansing Wash - I reviewed both on my blog. My skin improved so much (I have normal/dry skin).

  6. Has your LE Cleanse&Polish started to smell a bit funky? Mine has but I have no idea why. I have so many diff cleansers opened but the ones I mainly use are Sarah Chapman Ultimate Cleanse & one from Una Brennan but only use it twice a week or it strips my skin.

    1. It smells pretty normal to me, but I think I've only used about a third of it so far. Really hope it doesn't go weird though! xx

    1. I wish my skin was like that - I'd save a lot of money! Sorry to hear the Skin Blossom one was disappointing, is it the new one you've used? I've heard they've reformulated it so I hope it hasn't changed too much x

  9. I have horribly sensitive and problematic skin, i wish I could go between different ones. I'm currently sticking to the trusty and very unglamorous Cetaphyl :( xxx

  10. I really want to try the Liz Earle skincare!
I'm currently on a spending ban, so I'm stuck using a BareMinerals cleanser I don't really like! 😢

  11. Yay cleansers! I love using them but can get bored of them so quickly :(
Currently I'm using two that I alternate regularly. Oh and a make up remover I use sparsley.
Most mornings and evenings I use my Origins Dr Weil Mega Mushroom cleanser which is quite gentle and milky so it does leave a little film over the top but nothing major.
Every couples of days I use Origins Zero Oil cleanser for a deep clean. Smells great and gets rid of all excess oil. Perfect!
For make up removal I use L'Occitane Immortal milk make up remover (trying to remember the name!) which smells gorgeous and removes make up so easily! Super expensive but love it so much.
Great post! Love reading about your skincare as its geared mostly towards gentler products.
    Please keep it up.

    1. Ooo I'm liking the sound of all of those, especially the Origins! Will have to add them to my wishlist :) Thanks Paris, my skin can sometimes be on the sensitive side, so I prefer skincare which isn't going to be too harsh on it x

  12. I completely understand what you mean about the cleanser change-up. It's probably some sort of weird placebo effect, but my skin can't handle not having options. BUT it also doesn't like it when I change products too frequently -- it's as though it needs the security of options, but the stability of repeated use. Weirdo. I would kill to try the Cleanse&Polish -- Liz Earle needs to make her way over here!
