Organic Beauty | Conscious Skincare | Make Up Melt, Sweet Orange & Frangipani Body Butter and Hydrolat Tea Tree review

As a beauty blogger and a self-confessed skincare addict, I'm constantly bombarded with emails about the 'latest must-have'. Whether it's a trend or a new product, my inbox is always full of everything that's 'new, new, new!'. So it's been a pleasant change to sit back and revisit some old green beauty favourites from Conscious Skincare instead.

I was first introduced to Conscious Skincare around ten years ago when I featured one of the brand's body butters in a post called 'Cold Weather Proofing the Beauty Routine'. Since then, I have used their products sporadically over the years and recommended certain items to friends and family who are into natural skincare.

For those new to Conscious Skincare, they are an established indie organic, vegan, and natural skincare company based in Wales. All of their products are cruelty-free, lovingly handmade, produced in small fresh batches, and packaged as eco-friendly and plastic-free as possible.

Conscious Skincare Make Up Melt* (100ml, £16 with pump, link)

Made with just five natural and organic ingredients, Make Up Melt is an award-winning makeup remover that's wonderfully simple, but very effective. Composed of a blend of cold-pressed Sesame and Castor Oils, this product quite literally breaks down and 'melts' away all traces of makeup, leaving your skin perfectly clean and nourished without feeling stripped. The addition of Rosemary, Eucalyptus, and Myrtle essential oils have each been carefully chosen for their natural benefits. Rosemary helps to rejuvenate the skin, Eucalyptus is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and Myrtle has some impressive balancing and astringent qualities.

How to use: I apply a pump's worth to a reusable cotton pad and gently wipe it across my face. For stubborn waterproof mascara/liquid eyeliner, I'll hold the pad over closed eyes for a minute or so to allow the oil to fully dissolve the waterproof formula. After that, I rinse my face with warm water and follow up with my regular evening skincare routine.

Conscious Skincare Sweet Orange & Frangipani Body Butter* (250ml, £15, link)

Dry skin will simply adore Conscious Skincare's Body Butters which come in three different formulas; two fragranced and one fragrance-free. Packed full of nature's best nourishing and hydrating ingredients such as Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, Vitamin E, and fairtrade Cocoa Butter, this version I have is also beautifully fragranced with uplifting Sweet Orange, Sandalwood, and heady Frangipani essential oils. The water-free formula means there are no additives or preservatives either.

What I love the most about this body butter is how intensely thick and rich the texture is, yet it melts and sinks into the skin easily once you massage it in. If you're yearning for baby-soft, silky skin, this is the body butter for you.

Conscious Skincare Organic Hydrolat Tea Tree* (100ml, £13 with pump, link)

As we move into the warmer months of the year, my combination skin always gets a bit more oily so I've been looking forward to trying out this tea tree toner which is especially suited to oily and blemish-prone skin types. A properly pure and natural product, this hydrolat contains just 100% organic tea tree water and that's it - nice and simple! 

You can use this in your skincare routine morning and/or night depending on your skin type, and it's recommended to use it on freshly cleansed skin for the best results. Tea Tree is famed for its natural antibacterial and antiseptic properties which help to keep your complexion toned and clear, so if you've been struggling with breakouts, definitely give it a try.

Beauty Empties: Products I've Used Up

It's time for a Beauty Empties post don't you think? Come and rummage through the recycling bin with me and discover which products I'll be repurchasing again, and which, if any, will be staying in the bin!

Skin & Me Purify + Prep Hydrating Cleanser* (featured here)

I'm all about using creamy hydrating cleansers during the winter months and this little gem from Skin & Me has served me well. It's brilliant as a quick morning cleanser to prep my skin for my makeup and I love the recyclable aluminum squeezy tube. Repurchase? I've switched back to the REN Evercalm Cleansing Milk at the moment, but I'll definitely pick this up again.

Nourish Balance Refining Toning Mist* (travel size)

I love a refreshing spritz and Nourish Balance Refining Toning Mist is perfect for balancing excess sebum and keeping pores clear. If you have oily/combination skin, you should try it! Repurchase? Yes.

Aurelia Miracle Cleanser (travel size)

If you're a fan of thick cream cleansers that also double up as makeup removers, this bestseller Miracle Cleanser from Aurelia is amazing stuff. Removes all traces of makeup and leaves my skin so wonderfully fresh and clean. Repurchase? Yes.

Jacqueline Organic Honey Hydrating Lip Balm* 

Despite the name 'honey', this lip balm is suitable for vegans and has a 'honey-ish' natural scent to it which is really lovely. Keeps chapped lips at bay and is another product that I've enjoyed using this winter. Repurchase? I have a lot of lip balms in my stash to use up, but yes, I would repurchase!

Mádara Hyaluronic Acid Micellar Water (travel size)  

You can definitely spot a hydrating theme in this Empties round-up can't you?! I sometimes find that my eyes get very dry and scratchy when the central heating is on, so for days when I've been wearing mascara, I've been using Mádara Hyaluronic Acid Micellar Water to remove it. It's certainly one of the more hydrating/moisturising micellar waters that I've tried, no doubt due to the Hyaluronic Acid in the formula. Repurchase? Yes.

Westlab Reviving Epsom Bath Salts

Epsom Bath Salts are just amazing and I always, always have a bag or two in my bathroom. I've gotten into the habit of using them more often this winter, and my everyday aches and pains have been reduced as a result. Magical stuff! These ones are straight-up 100% natural mineral salts so I'll usually add a little bath/essential oil for some fragrance. Repurchase? Already have!

Wildheart Organics Revive Shower Oil*

Wildheart Organics is a beautiful natural luxury brand and I loved every single drop of their Revive Shower Oil. Incidentally, I used this purely as a bath oil and adored the blend of eucalyptus, lemongrass, and rosemary essential oils. Repurchase? Yes.

Skin & Tonic Slow Down Bath Soak* (featured here)

Very similar to the bath oil above, this Skin & Tonic Slow Down Bath Soak has a similar blend of essential oils which are infused into the bath salts, along with some CBD. This results in a very relaxing bath which is perfect to use after a long, stressful week. Repurchase? Yes.

This Works Stress Check Kind Hands

No winter empties post would be complete without at least one tube of hand cream and my go-to has been the bestselling Stress Check Kind Hands from This Works which I picked up for a bargain in TK Maxx. If you haven't smelt the Stress Check fragrance, you must! It's so calming and the hand cream itself is ultra-moisturising without being sticky or greasy. Repurchase? Already have.

Laidbare Butter Me Up Body Butter* (reviewed here)

Oh wow, this product has been a long-time favourite of mine, having first reviewed it back in 2012! Sadly, this amazing body butter has been discontinued and this was my very last tube of it so you better believe that I'll be cutting open the tube to get every last bit out! Repurchase? Discontinued :(

This Works Love Sleep Pillow Spray (travel size)

Lastly, I finished up a travel mini of the This Works Love Sleep Pillow Spray. This is the first that I've tried from the Love Sleep range and it's such a beautiful and highly addictive blend of Ylang Ylang and Patchouli. Repurchase? Very tempted to pick up the full size.

Beauty Empties: Products I've Used Up

 

What better way to start the New Year than with an Empties post? It's always satisfying to clear the clutter so let's start in the bathroom! Here are all the beauty products that I've finished recently and my thoughts on which ones I'll be repurchasing again in the future.

Leaf People Neroli & Vanilla Body Serum Oil* (reviewed here)

I first came across Leaf People when I judged this same Body Oil in the Cert Clean Beauty Awards. The USA brand was kind enough to send me a little thank-you package after the event and I've loved their Neroli & Vanilla Body Serum Oil ever since. With a rich but light texture, this oil is great for a relaxing self-care massage and pampering session, especially after a long hot bath, and the Neroli and Vanilla fragrance is gorgeous, to say the least. Repurchase? I can't find a UK stockist, unfortunately, but I would definitely pick it up again if I saw it over here.

Beauty Cleanse Cabbage + Cranberry + Hemp Anti-Pollution Deep Cleansing Oil & Makeup Remover* (reviewed here)

The name is ridiculously long I know, but this is a proper indie beauty gem! It's packed full of antioxidants and has a luxury oil-to-milk, fragrance-free formula that just dissolves all traces of waterproof makeup, pollution, SPF, and daily grime, in a matter of seconds. I find it's so effective that you only need the tiniest amount which means this glass bottle lasts for months. Repurchase? Yes.  

Rahua Classic Shampoo* (reviewed here)

I've used Rahua's Classic Shampoo on and off for years, and it's one of those luxury haircare products that I only tend to buy when it's on offer due to how expensive it is. The Classic formula is brilliant for fine hair as it adds strength to the follicles without weighing everything down, plus it's safe to use for colour-treated locks too. Is it worth the price tag? This is something that I constantly um and ah about! Repurchase? Maybe if I see a good coupon code to use with it.

Terre Verdi AcquaDiRosa Balancing Mist* (travel size, reviewed here)

This is basically a fancy high-end, organic Rose Floral Water. Straight up and 100% pure, it's perfect for calming any redness and inflammation in your complexion, so lends itself well to those who have troublesome skin types that are prone to breakouts and irritation. Repurchase? As much as I enjoyed using it, it's not a unique product so I would probably shop around for a cheaper (but still organic) version.

Naobay Detox Illuminating Micellar Water (travel size)

Found in a beauty subscription box, Naobay's Detox Micellar Water is gentle but effective at removing makeup, including stubborn waterproof mascaras which is what I primarily use micellar waters for. Repurchase? Sadly this appears to have been discontinued :( 

Monpure Clarifying Scalp Scrub (travel size)

Another beauty box discovery that I was very excited to try out as a lot of people rave about this. However, I found it really difficult to wash out of my hair as it has a very thick, shea butter-rich formula with loads of jojoba beads. Repurchase? Not for me.

Burt's Bees Lip Balm in Cucumber Mint

You can't go wrong with a Burt's Bees Lip Balm and I've been buying them for years. By this point, they have become a beauty staple of mine and I must have tried all the different flavours that they do; Cucumber Mint is as refreshing as it sounds. Repurchase? Yes.

Green People CV Age Defy+ Cell Enrich Facial Oil* (travel size)

Green People's best range is their Age Defy line by their founder, Cha Vøhtz. This Cell Enrich Facial Oil is a really good find and has lots of nutrients to feed your skin everything that it needs to glow. If you're looking to nvest in a new facial oil this year, I highly recommend this one. Repurchase? Yes.

Introducing: Wild Pharmacy - Skincare Review

 

There is a wealth of natural beauty brands to discover from the Nordic countries, and I've recently been trialling several products from the Finish brand, Wild Pharmacy.

Adding a pop of contemporary colour to my vanity table, Wild Pharmacy are a mid-priced, cruelty-free skincare company from Finland that specialises in wild foraged natural and organic ingredients. 

They also have a whole ethos about encouraging individuals to see themselves as whole, and they promote mental health awareness with positive quotes on their packaging to help build self-confidence. In addition, the brand supports campaigns and projects related to anti-bullying, particularly cyberbullying of young people, with a Gen Z focus on health and mental wellbeing.

A refreshing facial mist is always a winner during the summer months and they don't come much more revitalizing than this Balancing Mist from Terre Verdi. It contains lots of lovely skin-calming anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties which makes it a handy skincare hero for problematic complexions.

Ooh! Oils Of Heaven Blackcurrant Face Oil (RRP £19)

Another useful skin soother is this wonderful Ooh! Oils Of Heaven Blackcurrant Face Oil. I imagine most skin types will love this, but it's particularly beneficial for helping with uneven skin tones and for reducing any inflammation or flare-ups. A clever miracle worker thanks to the high antioxidant content of those superstar blackcurrants.

Butterwhips Warmly Relaxing Body Butter (RRP £18)

I'm a big fan of Butterwhips, having previously reviewed them a few months ago, so I was really happy to discover a big tin of their bestselling Warmly Relaxing Body Butter. The texture of this body butter has a lovely thick, rich, typically whipped allure that simply melts into the skin, delivering intense moisture. I'll be saving this to use during winter when my body feels drier as it's very moisturising!

INIKA Lip & Cheek Cream in Morning (RRP £25)

The star of this month's box for me personally is this gorgeous INIKA Lip & Cheek Cream in the shade Morning. It has a silky-soft formula that blends easily into cheeks for a healthy flush of colour and adds a simple dewy finish to lips. Fuss-free makeup at its finest and excellent quality as always from INIKA.

My September Beauty Faves are a small but sweet edit of natural skincare and body care which all have a focus on hydration to help move you seamlessly into Autumn. I always find this time of year quite challenging for many reasons, but luckily it's easy to keep your skin in check with these little helpers!

The Body Pampering Treat: Tropic Perfect Skin Resurfacing Body Lotion* (200ml, £28, link)

For all-over silky soft smoothness, Tropic's Perfect Skin Resurfacing Body Lotion is cleverly formulated with plant-based AHAs which help to slough away dull dead skin cells on the surface to reveal fresher, smoother skin underneath. It features sugarcane-derived Glycolic Acid, Pomegranate Enzymes, Noni Fruit extract and Papaya oils that work together to resurface the texture of the skin, whilst also hydrating and boosting cellular turnover. Anyone can use it and it's particularly useful for those who have the common Keratosis Pilaris (aka 'bumpy chicken skin') on the arms etc as it drastically improves the appearance of this. Like all of Tropic's products, it smells great and works a treat!

The Budget-Friendly Face Oil For All Skin Types: Exfolin Herbal Face Elixir* (30ml, £12.99)

I'm always being asked to recommend more budget-friendly alternatives and about two months ago, I was introduced to a natural and cruelty-free skincare brand called Exfolin. Their Herbal Face Elixir is priced at just £12.99 and it's by far one of the best facial oils that I've tried which is under £15 - what a bargain! Comprised of just six natural ingredients, it blends together the best of both worlds as it's hydrating, but also boasts antibacterial properties to fight off blemishes and breakouts. I find it effective for soothing any redness/inflammation and for reducing 'maskne' too. Definitely worth a try and finally something that won't break the bank either.

The Super Luxe Multi-Purpose Oil for Hair, Skin & Body: Dyana Russet Pure Marula Oil* (50ml, £54, link)

Marula Oil is incredibly popular these days and Dyana Russet makes it easy to see why. Their Pure Marula Oil is simply 100% cold-pressed, organic Marula Oil at its finest and is sourced from South Africa before being bottled in London. I love Marula Oil because it has such an interesting antioxidant and nutritional profile as it's one of the richest plant-based sources of Omega 9 and is also high in Vitamins E & C, as well as being loaded with anti-ageing antioxidants and amino acids. It's also a true multi-purpose superstar because it can be slathered onto dry hair to intensely nourish, incorporated into your evening skincare routine as the last step to deeply moisturise dry skin and it can be applied all over the body to improve elasticity, reduce inflammation and simply soothe and soften the skin. Marula Oil is also a great choice for pregnant ladies who want to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, and whilst it's expensive, a little does go a long way thankfully! For those who are interested in what it smells like, it has a lovely subtle floral and nutty natural fragrance.

The Protective Facial Mist: Nourish Antioxidant Peptide Mist* (100ml, £22, link)

I was so excited to try this new release from Nourish as soon as it arrived on my doorstep and I'm happy to report that it doesn't disappoint! The main reason for the excitement is because this Antioxidant Peptide Mist contains everyone's favourite skincare ingredient Hyaluronic Acid with the anti-inflammatory benefits of Turmeric, alongside specially selected Peptides and Probiotics - all fantastic ingredients for hydrating, brightening, soothing and protecting the skin. There's also Liquorice extract to further add brightening and radiance qualities and a blend of calming essential oils to help elevate this mist above its competitors. A wonderful new addition to my morning routine and one that's certified 91% organic, vegan, cruelty-free and alcohol-free. Give it a try!

Oh, I was very happy to see this! I'm a huge fan of using charcoal and clay-based face masks to keep spots and breakouts at bay, and I've used this one from Madara in the past with great results. If you feel that your skin is congested and feels 'bumpy' underneath the surface, this facial treatment will help to draw everything out in just 5 minutes. Highly recommended for 'maskne' too!

INIKA Mineral Mattifying Powder (RRP £23)

If you read last month's LoveLula Beauty box review, you'll know that they included a primer from INIKA and this month sees another fantastic full-size makeup product from the luxury Australian brand - a Mineral Mattifying Powder. This translucent loose powder provides a naturally matte finish to your makeup look and can be used over the top of any foundation, regardless of whether it's a liquid or mineral powder.
