Tried & Tested: The Body Shop Mango Beautifying Oil

The Body Shop Mango Beautifying Oil* (100ml, £9, link)

Multi-purpose products always make me happy because I feel like you get a lot more bang for your buck (and truth be told, I can be pretty lazy with beauty stuff when I'm running late in the mornings!), so I was excited to try out one of the Beautifying Oils from The Body Shop.

The Beautifying Oils are basically dry oils which can be used on the body, face & hair.  The base formulas are made with a lightweight blend of nut oils including Community Trade Marula Oil.  They come in a wide range of flavours/scents (I think there are around 10 or so different ones to choose from) and I was kindly sent a Mango one to play with.  To road test the multi-purpose aspects, I used them as directed on all three areas.

On the Body
I loved using this an all over body oil, especially after shaving for silky soft legs that felt very moisturised and pampered.  It absorbs into the skin rapidly as you'd expect from a dry oil, and there's no greasiness or stickiness at all.  The scent is quite strong and lingers for a few hours afterwards, so for rare perfume wearers like me, it's perfect.

On the Face
I used two or three drops rubbed between my palms to apply it to my face at night after cleansing & toning.  Again, it soaks in straight away, but I didn't feel like it did much for my skin.  It just felt normal in the morning, instead of properly nourished and soft from when I use my dedicated face oils.  Might be something I use for a weekend away though if I'm packing light.

On the Hair
I've tried this out on my hair twice so far.  First time, I used a couple of drops on my damp ends & lengths after shampooing and before blow-drying, but didn't notice much of a difference other than the scent.  The second time, I used a tiny amount on dry hair, just on the ends & lengths again, and it made my hair less frizzy and more sleek when I straightened it.  It's great for taming flyways, but make sure to only use a small amount otherwise it can look a little greasy.

Summary
As a body oil this really works wonders and I love that it's quick and easy to use, plus it's useful for de-frizzing your hair in the morning.  As I mentioned above, it's OK for using on the face if you're taking it with you travelling, but personally I'd prefer to use a proper face oil.  When I've used this up, I'll definitely look into the other flavours available as the Mango scent is a bit too sickly for my liking, but for those who are interested, it smells exactly the same as the rest of the Mango range in The Body Shop.

Have you tried any of The Body Shop's Beautifying Oils?
Which flavour/scent would you go for?

  2. I love using products like this in summer when I'm wearing short sleeves and the scent really lingers but I do look like a bit of a weirdo sniffing myself all day. ;)

  3. This looks lovely. Think I would use it more as a moisturiser on the body as you say it's not too greasy. Can't wait to go in store and check the scents out.

  8. I have the Shea Butter one and smells lovely! I usually warm a generous amount of it in my hands and put ALL OVER my hair before the shower when it needs and extra boost of conditioning. Then I wash and blow dry as usual and my hair is silky and georgeus as it's never been before! :)

  12. This is one of my favorite products from The Body Shop, it smells so lovely and performs really well overall! Obviously there is no need to buy it in any other scent as the product itself is identical, but the temptation is monstrous...
