Review: Boxdelux - June 2013

 Boxdelux* (£35 per month, link)

A month or so ago, I wrote a post about a new subscription service called Boxdelux which is exclusively aimed at high-end and luxury consumers.  The box promises to bridge the gap between beauty and food subscriptions, marrying the two together to include a select mix of products every month so that you can enjoy the best of both worlds.  As with all things luxury inspired, it comes with a high-end price tag of £35 per month, so is it worth it?  Let's investigate with their box for June.

The box itself is slightly bigger and has much more depth than your standard beauty box, and it's constructed of thick matte black cardboard with the Boxdelux logo on the top.  Everything is wrapped with an overlay of black tissue, and cushioned with pink zigzag paper bits.

The contents!
I've split them into food and beauty as below:-

Propercorn (30g, £1)
I love popcorn and have to say that this bag didn't last very long!  It was absolutely delicious and a million times better than any other popcorn I've ever tasted.  I received a bag in the Sweet & Salty flavour which was so moreish, but guilt free at just 128 calories, and they're all made here in the UK.  A big thumbs up from me!

Nakd Crunch Bars (30g & 85p each)
Although these are very good for you health-wise, I've never been much of a fan of the original bars to be honest.  These new crunch bars are much more palatable however, and there were two different flavours in the box; Cocoa Crunch (very yummy!) and Banana Crunch (pretty good!).  Vegan friendly, and gluten, wheat and dairy free.

We Are Tea (2 tea bags, £1 each)
I drink a lot of green tea so I was happy to see these ethically sourced, whole-leaf tea bags included.  One was called Gunpowder Supreme which brewed a good, strong, straight up green tea flavour, and the other was Moroccan Mint which was a more subtle green tea with peppermint.

Revitalash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner (1ml sample, £30)
I've read some mixed reviews on Revitalash, but I'm interested to see whether this will work for me.  It's an intensive eyelash conditioner which promises to "dramatically enhance your natural eyelashes" - I'll post a full review on this soon to see if it does.

Aden Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick (8ml full size, £6)
One thing I do enjoy the most about boxes like this, is the chance to try out new make-up brands, and Aden are a European brand (I think they're Hungarian or German? Correct me if I'm wrong!).  I received one of their long lasting, hydrating, liquid lipsticks in 12 - a pale, pastel, baby pink.  Not a shade I'd typically choose for myself, but I'm looking forward to trying it out nonetheless.

Aden Nail Polishes (6ml minis, £7.50 for 3)
I love nail polish, so this mini trio was right up my street.  The shades I got are all shimmery and come in white, peach and a beautiful purple.

Ultrasun High SPF 30 Family Formula (15ml sample, full size £19 for 100ml)
I'm a big fan of my JASON and Lavera sunscreens, but I'll try this out and see how it compares.  I always hear rave reviews about Ultrasun so I'm interested to see what all the fuss is about.

Ultrasun Lip Balm SPF 15 (£6)
Hands up who always forgets to wear a lip product with SPF in it?  Yep, I'm sure I'm not alone!  Happy to finally have a dedicated product like this now, so it's going straight into my handbag.

£20 Boxdelux voucher
Also included was a £20 off voucher to spend in the Boxdelux shop, which is valid on purchases over £50.

Overall thoughts
So here's the tricky part.  Whilst I like the look of most of what I've received in this box (and I'm sure my first impressions will grow further as I try everything out properly), I don't think Boxdelux feels all that high-end or luxury to me.  And whilst the actual value of everything totals up to more than the monthly fee, I'd be disappointed if I'd spent £35 of my own money on it.  The price just feels far too much for what you ultimately receive IMO.

What do you think?
Will you be signing up to Boxdelux?

  1. Doesn't look worth the price to me! It's far too expensive for a monthly box and although the snacks look great I don't think they should be mixed with beauty x

    1. Same here, I think it's missing one big standout WOW product, although I'm guessing maybe that's supposed to be the Revitalish sample perhaps? x

  6. the box looks great but i'd expect the price to be around £15, seeing as some of the £10 beauty boxes i've received are on par with this. it'd be lovely if they popped something high-end in there, like how amazing would a mini chanel lipgloss or something be?! xo

    1. I agree - I think it's missing one standout product like how Glossybox used Nars in their very first box. I'd have loved to have a seen a mini Chanel lippie too! xx

  7. I love the idea of a grazebox and glossybox combined! It is quite pricy though so might be more of a one off treat than monthly subscription sort of thing.

    1. I love the inclusion of the foody snacks too (and they were so nice as well, especially that popcorn!). It would work well as a one off treat every now and again x

  8. I think it's a bit expensive! Aden are a Hungarian brand I think, I know when I did a swap with a Hungarian blogger she mentioned it, I thought it was a budget brand. I think if there had actually been a high end brand it would have been better and maybe make the higher price more justifiable :) x

    1. Yeah I think Aden are a budget brand which is why it seemed a bit disappointing that they were included in a high end box x

  10. I'm think I'm with you, it just doesn't feel particularly high-end does it. I don't know anything about the brands included but on packaging alone these look like products I might expect to find in a Glossybox/Birchbox, so if I'd spent £35 on this I think I would be very disappointed x

  11. Thank you for your honest opinion. I agree nothing looks particularly "high end" to me in this box, and no products really stand out to me as anything I'd be really excited to try. Then again, I don't really get subscription boxes in general and would much prefer to spend the money on something I specifically want (or save up towards that) :p

    1. I think that's the main problem, it just doesn't feel high end or luxe enough for the price. £35 is a lot of money and like you say, you could easily just buy something that you really, really want with it instead!

  12. I like the idea of this box, but don't think it is worth the price tag. You got loads of products in there though! :)

    1. Ditto, I think if they upped their game, this could be a really great box as a treat every now and again, but as the moment it's a bit disappointing xxx
