Samples Review & Swatches: Vapour Organic Beauty - Illusionist Concealer in 030 & Siren Lipstick in Chere

Friday 9 August 2013

You may have seen me mention a fantastic online shopping site called Naturisimo previously on this blog.  Along with a whole host of wonderful, natural beauty goodies from a vast array of brands, they also offer customers the option of adding up to 5 product samples with every order made.  Some of these are free, others you pay for.  With my last order, I picked up two samples from a make-up brand called Vapour Organic Beauty who I'd heard a lot of good things about.

I decided to try out one of their lipsticks and a concealer.  As both of these are stick formulas, the samples I received were presented in little plastic tubs and you get a small slice from a full size product as shown above.  The samples are tiny but there's enough to try them out properly.  For a £1 each I thought it was good value, especially when you bear in mind how much the full sizes cost!

Vapour Organic Illusionist Concealer in 030 (full size £20, link)
The claims of this concealer were very promising; moisturising, non-creasing, won't clog pores, dimishes the appearance of fine lines etc, but in reality I found it to be rather disappointing.  The formula is lovely though.  It's creamy, light, and made with 70% organic and 30% natural mineral pigments and vitamins.  This concealer blends well and doesn't crease, but only provides a very, very, sheer amount of coverage, which sadly isn't enough to cover my (particularly) dark circles.  It worked slightly better over blemishes, but again, the coverage is so light that it sometimes looked like I hadn't applied anything at all.  This might be good for those who already possess amazing skin, but it just didn't work for me.  Swatched heavily below.

The lipstick however was much better!  I picked the shade 'Chere' which looks a lot darker in the photo above for some reason, but it's actually a pale, soft mauve nude with a tiny amount of shimmer.  The lipstick is 100% natural, and this shade is so flattering on - in fact, it may even be one of my all time favourite nudes!  The formula is a dream too, it's so moisturising and creamy (think MAC Cremesheens) but it's pretty long-lasting with it which was a pleasant surprise.  I think the full size of this will be making its way onto my wishlist...!

Summary:  So one miss, but one definite hit.  With my next Naturisimo order, I'll certainly be picking up some more make-up samples to try out and have my eye on Vapour Organic Beauty's cream blushers...

  1. I've seen these samples before and was planning on trying out some of their cream highlighters / blushes. I love the lipstick on you, it looks really beautiful! £18 feels like a lot for a lipstick but if the quality is there and its a natural, sustainable product then it's probably worth investing in! Shame about the concealer, I've been having little luck with the new concealers I've been testing out recently xx

  3. I actually really like the coverage from Vapour's concealer under the eyes. My only problem is getting it to last all day...it somehow disappears mid-day on me. I haven't tried their lipsticks yet, but they're on my list! Chere looks super pretty :)
