My Hair Products / Styling Stash

Thursday 26 September 2013

My hair is naturally dry and has a slight wave to it which can either look good (like once or twice a year), or it can look plain awful (i.e most of the time).  It's also a frizzy nightmare to boot, which has forced me to keep an arsenal of products on hand at all times in order to make myself look marginally presentable.  Now, I'm not saying that messy hair isn't cool, on the contrary, but let's face it - getting that 'just got out of bed look' is the same as that 'no make-up look' that requires at least five products isn't it?!  So here's a rundown of what's in my hair products/styling stash.

I keep everything together in an old L'Occitane box which is the perfect size for my current stash.  As you can see though, there's hardly any extra room for anything else, so I'm adhering to a strict one in, one out policy at the moment.  Plus, there's absolutely nothing else I could possibly need right now as you'll soon see below!

The Hair Oils  & Serums

Dry hair can quickly become damaged hair in no time, especially if you're using heat on a regular basis.  To keep mine in tip top condition, I like to give it some TLC by using hair oils and serums.  My two HG products for this are Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment (which works better for me than the cult Moroccan Oil) and Dr Organic Moroccan Argan Oil Hair Treatment Serum.  Both of these are amazing and I can't recommend them enough.  For my handbag, I have Percy Reed Volumising Oil which doesn't really add any volume to my hair, but instead I use it a general, all over frizz tamer.

A new product I've been trying out recently is FoM Revitalising Hair Serum* which is 100% natural and comes in a glass bottle with a handy dropper.  It has an active phyto complex and vitamin rich formula to properly nourish dry hair, but it doesn't feel heavy or look greasy in the slightest.  I like to use it by rubbing just two drops through my hair before blow drying, and it gives me wonderfully glossy looking locks.

The Leave In Conditioners & Frizz Fighters

To keep frizz at bay, I reach for a good leave-in conditioner that doubles up as an excellent frizz fighter. Again, I have two HG products for this; A'kin 24 Hour Intensive Moisture Leave-In Conditioner and YUKO Anti-Frizz Conditioner*, both of which I've raved about before.  The A'kin one is a much more traditional cream conditioner, whereas the YUKO is a spray-on treatment that is heat activated when you use your hairdryer or straighteners.  Both are fantastic.  I also keep a travel size of Nicky Clarke Instant Calmer Sleek Soften Shine Balm in my handbag in case I'm going out straight after work, and need a little touch-up to see me through the evening/night. If you're a curly-haired girl, make sure that you're using the correct curly hair products to give you the most frizz-free finish and let your curls shine!

The Style Masters & Heat Protectors

Having a particular styling product to hand when you're experimenting with different hairstyles comes in very handy, especially if you have hair like mine which needs to be told what to do!  For lengthening the life of curls and beachy waves, Macadamia Oil Control Fast Drying Working Spray* offers flexible hold and never feels crispy, as does KMS Free Shape Hot Flex Spray which works in the same way, but offers additional heat protection.

For adding volume, I flit between using Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hair Spray for all over styles, and Richard Ward Volumiser Root Booster for things like up-dos.  And when I just want super sleek straight hair, my HG product has to be Schwarzkopf OSiS+ Flatliner Iron Serum Spray* which heat protects hair up to 200C (I don't like to use higher heats than that personally) and works with your straightners to make your hair poker straight.

The Two Absolute Essentials

If I'm running late in the morning or I'm just having a lazy day, you can't beat a quick dusting of a good quality dry shampoo to refresh your hair.  As I only wash mine twice a week, I rely on Lush No Drought Dry Shampoo a lot, and it's by far the best dry shampoo I've ever used.  And last, but by no means least, if you have long and/or thick hair, you need to get a Tangle Teezer!  They make brushing your hair a much nicer and faster experience, and are well worth investing in.

Have you tried any of these?
