Review & Swatches/Photos: Yves Rocher Sexy Pulp Ultra Volume Mascara

Tuesday 22 April 2014

They say good things come to those who wait, and this mascara may well live up to that age old saying.  Or does it?  Meet Yves Rocher's Sexy Pulp Ultra Volume Mascara

Way back in 2012, Youtube's Zoella raved about this mascara and her legion of followers sat up and took notice.  I remember reading her review at the time and thinking, it looks good, but that wand is huge!  For this reason, it didn't jump onto my immediate to-buy list, but I've always been curious about it.  So when Baobella offered to send me one to try out, of course I had to say yes to finally see what all the fuss was about.
As you can see, the wand is enormous.  It's definitely the biggest mascara wand I've ever seen!  Just look at the size of it!  First time using Yves Rocher Sexy Pulp Ultra Volume Mascara was something of a disaster experience.  I almost poked my eye out and managed to get a huge clump of mascara wedged firmly into the inner corner lashes.  Not a good look.

Second time, I titled my head at more of an angle and carefully wiggled it on from the root to the tips of my lashes in a calm and collected sweep.  The results were much better as you can see below:-

 Natural eyelashes / No mascara
With one coat of Yves Rocher Sexy Pulp Mascara
With two coats of Yves Rocher Sexy Pulp Mascara

Using just one coat gave me a natural, yet defined look (if a little clumpy).  Applying a second coat is definitely what I'd recommend as it gives the lashes much more of an oomph - lifting, lengthening and thickening them a treat.  The pigmentation is a strong black and I didn't experience any problems with flaking or smudging during the length of a full day.  That big old brush certainly takes some getting used to though as it picks up a lot of product especially on the tip, which can hinder application and cause the lashes to clump a little.  After a bit of trial and error though, you soon work out how to use it to the best of its ability, as the bristles themselves are a great shape for layering the mascara on.

Given its price though, I think there are highstreet/drugstore mascaras in the same price range that perform better or more or less the same, and are easier to work with.  However, I can't fault how good it looks when you get it right, and I'm impressed with how well it stays put throughout a busy day, plus it's easy to remove unlike some others.  One to try out, but pick it up when it's on offer.

Yves Rocher Sexy Pulp Ultra Volume Mascara* is currently half price for £9 via Yves Rocher UK and is also available from Baobella Boutique.

Do you like mascaras with big wands?

  1. Nice to hear that you like it, I unfortunately can't say the same as it smudges on me like crazy. Don't really know why as I haven't experienced that with any other mascara...

  5. This definitely great on your lashes! It's a great boost of thickness and really keeps your lashes defined! It's a bit pricey considered the cost of other mascaras you can get there but that's about the price of regular drugstore mascaras here! All are usually between 7-10 pounds (maybelline, revlon, etc), Ive seen lots of nice products from that brand and would love to try their cream shadows!

    1. Yes I think we're spoilt a bit with the prices of our highstreet/drugstore makeup, though some brands are pushing up the prices again this year. I've heard good things about Yves Rocher's cream shadows too!

  6. I think your lashes look great, but I agree it seems a bit pricey. I was just in a Yves Rocher shop today and picked up a micellar water for 5euros, hopefully it'll be more impressive than the mascara ;) xx

    1. Yeah I feel that the price point is a bit off with some of their makeup. Interested to hear what their micellar water is like :) xx

  7. You have such pretty eyes! Not bad for the price but perhaps it's a little dry? The hunt for an awesome and affordable mascara continues! ;)
