The Goodreads Tag

Sunday 25 May 2014

The lovely Hayley from Water Painted Dreams tagged me for this one and as I love reading, I thought I'd give it a go!  Goodreads is a well known website for book lovers where you can review, rate and keep track of what you're reading, as well as joining online book clubs / discussion groups.  If you like the sound of it, check it out (it's free!) and add me here.

What was the last book that you marked as read?
Enduring Love by Ian McEwan - I gave it 3/5.  Not the best book book I've ever read, but certainly not the worst either.

What are you currently reading?
I like to try and have two completely different books on the go at the same time, preferably one fiction and one non-fiction.  At the moment my fiction choice is Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, which I'm loving, and my non fiction one is Reminiscences of the Cuban Revolutionary War by Ernesto 'Che' Guevara.

What was the last book you marked as to read?
Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk which was recently recommended to me by a friend.

What book do you plan to read next?
I want to read a good fantasy so maybe something like Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.  Non-fiction wise, I have been eyeing up Watching The English by Kate Fox which I picked up recently from a charity shop.

Do you use the star rating system?
Yes, and like everyone else, I wish they did half stars!  Sometimes a book really does fall into that .5 category.

Are you doing a 2014 reading challenge?
Yes, I've challenged myself to read 75 books this year and so far I've read 23.

Do you have a wishlist?
I used to have one on Amazon, but it got crazy long, so now I just jot books that I want to read in a notebook.

What book do you want to buy next?
Saga, Vol 1 by Brian K Vaughan - my library is sadly a bit rubbish when it comes to stocking graphic novels and I'd love to start reading this series.

Do you have any favourite quotes?  Would you like to share a few?
I have a huge list of my favourite quotes here.

Who are your favourite authors?
Margaret Atwood, George Orwell, Stephen King, Terry Pratchett and Alan Moore.

Have you joined any groups?
Yes, quite a few!  Some are more active than others, but you soon figure out which ones have likeminded people in them.

What are your favourite genres?
I love anything Sci-Fi and Dystopian - give me an evil/horrible society set in the future and I'm all over it.  I also enjoy Horror, some Fantasy (nothing too epic though), usually anything Satire based, and Contemporary stuff as well.

I'd like to tag anyone who wants to give this a go - leave me a link below to your answers if you do it, would love to read them :)

  5. Great tag! I did it here: http://quickcheapandpretty.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-goodreads-tag.html

I loved Neverwhere, but then I love all of Gaiman's work. He's really a master. I also really wish for the half stars on GR--I have soooo many books that really fall in between two star ratings. :/

I've heard so many great things about Neverwhere and have loved all the other Gaiman books I've read in the past so I can't wait to get stuck in with it soon. Definitely agree - please Goodsreads, make half stars!
