If you're an avid fan of watching makeup tutorials or just a regular reader of beauty blogs, you'll no doubt be familiar with the cult MAC 217 brush, which is held up as possibly the best eyeshadow blending brush in the industry.  This review however looks at a much more budget friendly dupe from Bdellium Tools which retails for a fraction of the price.

I recently picked up the 776 brush from Bdellium Tools after hearing so much about its dupe-worthy qualities.  I've never owned the MAC 217 (that eye watering £19 price tag is just not something I can justify right now!), but after seeing lots of online comparisons, I now understand why everyone has been talking about Bdellium Tools instead.  Finding an eyeshadow brush that blends just right is a lot harder than you might think.  Most I've tried have been either too big and cumbersome to work with, or feel too sparse and thin in the bristles department.

This 776 brush ticks all of the right boxes.  The head is sufficiently fluffy but retains its shape well, and the size is perfect for blending out eyeshadow and not getting it everywhere.  I also love the slim wooden handle, and you can pick this up in a range of different colours.  After trying this, I no longer feel the need to covet MAC's 217 because Bd's 776 gets the job done beautifully and makes creating a smokey eye easier than eating ice cream on a hot day.  I'd say the only slight downside it has is that it feels a tiny bit scratchy if it's not freshly washed often enough, but if you do wash your brushes regularly, I don't think you would have a problem with it.  However, this niggle could be offset by the fact that the synthetic bristles are hypo-allergenic and 100% cruelty free which is a definite plus in  my books.

Bdellium Tools 776 Brush is priced around £7 from various stockists including cutecosmetics.co.uk

  1. I’ve been tempted to buy a couple of MAC’s 217 brushes, but might just have to give them a miss and try this brush instead. Thanks for sharing your find!

  2. Hmmmm, I'd have to test it myself to be sure! I can't live without my MAC 217. I have a couple of them and don't think they're that expensive since it's my favourite eye brush! This looks close, but a little stockier I think.

    1. The price isn't too bad then if you look at it like 'cost per use' :) but is a bit out of my budget at the moment sadly! :(
