Worth The Hype? La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo [+] review

When the original Effaclar Duo by La Roche Posay was being talked about on the blogosphere, I thought it would be the answer to all of my blemish problems.  Sadly it did nothing for me, but after reading several rave reviews and a personal recommendation from a friend about the new and improved [+] formula, I decided to give it another go.

For those not aware of La Roche Posay's Effaclar Duo, it's often touted as a 'miracle' product for those of us who have oily or blemish prone skin and is seen as an on the spot blemish treatment/moisturiser.  Now anything that says it's a 'complete skincare solution' needs to be taken with a pinch of salt in my experience and as mentioned previously, the original formula didn't do anything for me.  It didn't break me out (like it unfortunately did for some people), it just literally did nothing for me in that I saw no noticeable difference made to my skin.

When they reformulated it, I looked the other way and let it pass me by.  Then my best friend Jenna tried it and I saw the huge difference it made to her acne scars within a month.  I went out and bought it straight away! I've been fortunate not to have acne, but whenever I get any kind of blemish or angry spot, it nearly always leaves behind some kind of mark which takes a long time to fade.  The new La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo [+] features an ingredient called Procerad which rebuilds the skin's surface and helps to prevent the marks left behind from blemishes and acne, so it sounded perfect for me.

I've been applying a small amount of this to any marks and little scars for the past month and I've recently started to see some results in them fading.  I've also been using it on top of any blemishes that have come up and it really helps to reduce the inflammation which leads to them becoming smaller and easier to deal with very quickly.  So far, so good!  I'll continue to this tube up and will include my final thoughts in a future empties post.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo [+] (40ml) is currently on sale at escentual.com for £12.39

  1. Same here, I wasn't blown away by the original, but the new improved formula really helps to heal blemishes quicker, reduce redness and scarring. It's not a miracle product, but I definitely need it in my routine.

  2. I have the new formula and honestly saw no difference in spots or scarring. Lame! Luckily my acne has cleared up and I'm using Heal Gel which is helping with scarring a bit :)

  3. Wow, that sounds awesome! I've heard from so many raving reviews but I don't suffer from blemishes regularly anymore, I have the rare pimple once or twice a month so it's just some pigmentation from old scars that I need to fade! Thanks for reviewing this!

  4. I was a bit tempted to get the new formula one too, but the original gave me such bad breakouts I'm scared to! I'm glad this one works a little better for you though :)

  5. I like it but wasn't "wowed" by it. I think I gave in to the hype a little bit too much and just like with Hydraluron I expected some amazing results. ;)

  7. Hmm not sure if I should try this or not!
My skin is terrible at the moment with breakouts but it's also very dry which I feel this would enhance :(

    1. I've read a lot of mixed reviews with regards to its use on dry skin - some people seem to love it, others hate it! As I have oily/combination, I can't really comment, but would say try out a sample size first just to be sure x

  8. Definitely going to pick this up! Like you I wasn't that impressed at first - I used some of my friend's when I was staying the night and the next day I was completely broken out and the only thing I could think of was that it must've been the LRP! I'm excited to try the new formulation though, I found it quite drying but if you just apply it to blemishes and scars I think it'd be much better.

    1. Definitely, I think it's much better to use it as a spot treament rather than a face moisturiser x

  9. I've not tried either product, from the old or the new formulation, but if it works then I may consider it! Thanks for sharing :) Nice review xx

  10. Nice review! I have the new formula too and I'm not sure as to how I feel about it, I don't have acne breakouts but my skin has a few small bumps in different parts so after using a product recommended by my dermatologist, which failed to do anything, I said I'd give this a try! And I can't really tell a difference. My skin is way better now, but I had stopped using the product every night over a month ago. So its tough to conclude :P

    Awesome reviews,
