Foodie Friday: My Favourite Hot Drinks in Winter / Cold Weather

Friday 23 January 2015

Welcome to Foodie Friday, a new food and drink related feature where I get to share my latest finds, recipes and maybe even some independent restaurant / cafe reviews, with you all.  I'm not sure whether this will be a weekly or fortnightly post yet but let's see how it goes!

To kick things off, I thought I'd do a post on some of my favourite hot drinks that I consume by the barrel load during Winter.  There are few things more comforting than wrapping your hands around a hot mug of your favourite beverage when it's cold outside, so if you're looking for some new drinks to warm yourself up with, you're in the right place.

Pukka Vanilla Chai Herbal Tea - (20 teabags, £2.39, link)
Winner of a Gold Great Taste award back in 2012, Pukka's Vanilla Chai has been a longtime favourite of mine.  Described as a 'caffeine-free organic lift infused with Cinnamon warmth', this tastes absolutely delicious and makes a perfect feel good, morning cuppa when it's cold and wet outside.  It's predominantly Cinnamon with hints of Ginger Root, Licorice, Cardamom, Fennel, and of course Vanilla too.  Needless to say, it also smells as good as it tastes.

Sweet Freedom Choc Shot Liquid Chocolate - (320g, £3.50, link)
If you want a healthy hot chocolate but hate the taste of the typical low calorie powder stuff on the market (which IMO don't really taste of anything), then you need to try this.  Choc Shot is suitable for Vegans, Dairy & Gluten Free, 100% natural, suitable for Diabetics, low GL and has 25% fewer calories than regular hot chocolate - phew!  It's mainly made from a special blend of natural fruit extracts and Carob, and comes out like a thick syrup.  You can add it to hot milk (cows or alternative) for a hot chocolate and you can use it in baking, on ice cream, toast, porridge, in smoothies, coffees anything really.  I love this stuff!

Clipper Organic White Tea - (26 teabags, £1.69, link)
White Tea is packed full of healthy antioxidants and has a refreshing, delicate taste.  I always recommend White Tea to friends who don't like the bitterness of Green Tea as it's much lighter and more subtle in flavour.  You can find White Tea mixed with different flavours, but if you want to try a pure one, Clipper's is excellent and it's organic too.

Drink Me Spiced Chai Latte (250g, £2, link)
To deviate from my healthy recommendations above, I'll round off the post with a little naughty treat. I'm sure you've seen this popular drink on lots of social media feeds recently as everyone I know seems to love it as much as I do! Spiced Chai Latte is a very sweet blend of Black Tea, Skimmed Milk Powder and Spices with the first ingredient being sugar.  You can mix it with either milk or water and it tastes good hot or iced so it's a versatile one to use all year round.  It's a really comforting, tasty drink.

What are your favourite hot drinks?
Have you tried any of these?
