Skincare Review: The Double Cleanse with Antipodes Grapeseed Butter Cleanser & Juliet Skin-Brightening Gel Cleanser

Antipodes Grapeseed Butter Cleanser & Juliet Skin-Brightening Gel Cleanser
Double cleansing is something that I got into about two years ago and it's really helped to clear up my skin. I tend to switch around the cleansers that I use for doing it, and currently, these two from Antipodes have been working exceptionally well for me.

What is double cleansing?
If you've haven't heard about double cleansing before, the principle is very easy to understand as it's pretty self-explanatory, however there are one or two things to bear in mind. With double cleansing, you're going to be washing your face twice, ideally with two different products which I'll explain about below.

The first cleanse is basically there to remove all of your makeup, sunscreen and the general grime after a long day. For this, I tend to reach for balm or oil-based cleansers because they're fantastic for breaking everything down and getting all of that crap off your face! The second cleanse can now 'treat' any specific skincare concerns you might have such as acne, dryness, inflammation, sensitivity etc, as your cleanser can now reach down into your skin properly, instead of just battling against your makeup or sunscreen. Second cleanses are where I switch up my cleansers the most often as I'll choose the product that's right for my skin at that time.

Antipodes Cleansers review
Over the past month, I've been testing out two of Antipodes' most popular cleansers by putting them through the double cleanse steps, and my skin has been getting on really well with them. I've been using Antipodes Grapeseed Butter Cleanser* (75g, £24.99, link) as a first cleanse because it's a very thick balm cleanser with an equally thick buttery texture that melts onto your skin once you massage it in. It's rich in Sweet Almond Oil, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Cocoa Butter, and Flax Seed Oil, so it's very nourishing as well as being capable of completely dissolving my makeup (it struggles a little with waterproof mascara/eyeliner, but gets rids of absolutely everything else!).  If you have dry skin, you could quite happily use this for both cleansing steps as it'll give your skin a serious dose of hydration in the process. The size of this tub is huge and will last a good few months as a little most definitely goes a long way with it!

For my second cleanse, I've used Antipodes Juliet Skin-Brightening Gel Cleanser* (200ml, £24.99, link) as my skin type is oily/combination and prone to blemishes and breakouts. This gel cleanser is gentle yet effective and features the anti-oxidant packed Vinaza Grape extract which helps to balance out the sebum/natural oils on your face. It also has Manuka Honey in it which is well known for its anti-bacterial properties that are very useful to have in your cleanser when you want to maintain a clear complexion. The brightening effects that I've experienced using this are quite subtle, so I may step this up and use it as a my morning cleanser as well to see if I can better results. As a second cleanser, it's brilliant though as my skin has definitely become less oily with a reduced amount of blemishes popping up since I started using it.

Have you tried / do you use any of Antipodes' cleansers?

  3. I love Antipodes but I've not tried any of their cleansers yet - I'm very tempted after reading this though! The Juliet cleanser sounds like it does exactly what I need, so I'll have to try it out when I run out of the cleanser I normally use :) xx
