Review & Swatches: Laura Mercier Summer Nudes Nail Lacquers Collection 2013

Friday 27 September 2013

Earlier this week, I received a late PR parcel from Laura Mercier, and almost died of joy when I saw their Summer Nudes Nail Lacquer Collection* was inside.  This collection of six new limited edition shades covers the light to dark spectrum beautifully, and despite it being marketed as a summer collection, I think it suits A/W a lot more.  All of the shades are wearable for everyday, with something to suit everyone who loves their neutral-esque nail polishes.

The Nail Lacquers are 11ml each, and come in Chanel style bottles with a two-piece cap.  The brush is a little on the thick side for my liking, but isn't too troublesome to use once you get the hang of it.  Formula wise, they're all '3-free' (so no formaldehyde, toulene and DBP aka dibutyl phthalate), and it's ultra smooth and glossy.  On my nails without a top coat, they lasted around 4 days before I started to see any minor wear or chips which is great, and that glossy shine remained for 3-4 days as well.

So onto the swatches!  All of these are without any top coat and I've mentioned how many coats I've used for each one as they vary from shade to shade.

Bare Angel is a very sheer, milky pale pink.  For the swatch above I used four thin coats to get it to look opaque, though you could of course wear it as a straight sheer with just one coat as well.  Not personally a shade I would wear that often, but it would be ideal for a chic french manicure.

Bare Rose is one of those quietly understated, light dusky pink shades that I adore, and this has to be one of my favourites.  It has the most minute pink shimmer running through it as well which it makes it different to all the other similar shades I own.  This was three coats.

Bare Haze is a beautiful light-toned, greige/mushroom shade that applies like a dream in just two coats.  The rich, glossy creme formula really pays off with this colour.

Bare Mocha is a cool-toned brown that looks a little taupey in some lights.  Again, the formula applied easily in two coats with lots of shine.

Cocoa Suede is chocolate brown with warm yellow undertones.  It's my least favourite out of the collection, but I have a feeling it may be a grower.  What do you think?  Two coats shown.

Bare Espresso is a deep, dark brown that's absolutely mesmerizing.  It's so opaque that you could almost get away with just one coat for this, but I applied two thin coats for good measure.  I have a penchant for shades which look black but aren't, and this fits that coveted criteria perfectly.  Most definitely a winner for A/W - and look at that shine!

Priced at £12.50 each.
Available from Laura Mercier counters nationwide and Selfridges.

My personal favourites are Bare Rose, Bare Haze and Bare Espresso.
Which ones do you like?

  9. Bare Angel looks so pretty! I have a lot of trouble finding white polishes that don't give that 'white out' effect. This one reminds me of Marshmallow by Essie :)
