Smith & Cult have been on my beauty radar for a while now, so I'm thrilled to finally get the chance to try out one of their coveted luxury nail polishes. Are they worth the hype though, and most importantly the price tag?
It was sheer love at first sight when my eyes locked onto the beautiful packaging of Smith & Cult's high-end nail polishes. Oh my! From its larger than average chunky size, to the uber-cool, melted effect on the gold toned lid, I could see why everyone was adding them to their beauty wishlists. The formula of these nail polishes boasts being '8-free', so there's no Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Xylene, Ethyl Tosylamide or Triphenyl Phosphate which makes this brand stand out from most of the others who are typically either only 4-free, 5-free or 7-free, though more are aiming higher thanks to growing consumer demand.
I have the shade 'The Bee Side' which is one of their new colours for S/S16. It's a beautiful pale sunshine pastel yellow and like many pastels, it does take a couple of coats to reach full opacity. I found the formula to be quite thin, almost runny which made it difficult to apply, although the thin brush does help with building up the layers. Once the polish is on though, I absolutely loved the colour. I don't own any other yellows in my collection so it made a change for me to wear a shade like this, and it really grew on me. It was shiny without the need for a top coat, and it lasted 4-5 days before it started to chip.
So is it worth the £19 pricetag? I'd say yes if you're into your luxury nail polishes and appreciate creative, high-end packaging as these bottles are serious stand out pieces to have on your dressing or vanity table. They would also make gorgeous gifts for nail junkies! If you're looking for similar 8-free polishes, Butter London are slightly cheaper, but I always find they chip a lot quicker on me than this one did. My only bugbear with this was the thin formula but maybe that's because it was a pastel shade? I'll have to try out a different colour and report back!

DeleteI don't think I could bring myself to spend £19 on one nail polish but it is beautiful! I love yellows but they don't tend to suit me very well :(

It's definitely one of those products that makes a good gift to ask for instead I think! Yellow is a tricky colour to wear, though it's a lot easier to wear in summer than any other time of the year :)
