January Empties / Products I've Used Up
At the start of the year, I pulled forward a bunch of products that I wanted to use up as they only had small amounts left in them and I'm pretty happy with how many I managed to finish off! Here are my January Empties.

The Detox Pamper

Sunday, 19 January 2014

Sundays and pampering were made for each other, so I thought I'd share a couple of new products that I've been enjoying recently which would be perfect for a detox style pamper.

November Magazine Freebies: Nails Inc with Glamour, Orly with Cosmopolitan & Rituals with Marie Claire

Sunday, 17 November 2013

You can always tell when the Christmas/December editions of magazines come onto the stands because they always have some fantastic freebies with them to lure you in.  Naturally, I couldn't resist and ended up picking up these ones.

I've done well with my empties again this month - click below to find out which of these I'll be repurchasing in the future, and which ones will be staying permanently in the recycling bin.

5 Mini Reviews: Liz Earle, Madara, LUSH, Burt's Bees & Rituals

The samples above for this 5 Mini Reviews post, have all come out of my recent travel bag.  Here's what I thought about each product:-

July Empties / Products I've Used Up

Tuesday, 31 July 2012

It's Empties time again!  I have another box full this month, but again they're mostly sample/travel sizes:-

 Skincare

 Lush Tea Tree Water
This is my go-to HG toner of choice most days.  Fantastic if you're prone to breakouts and have oily skin like I do.
Repurchase?  Yes

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser
Another HG product for me, works beautifully and is a great make-up remover to use in the evenings too.
Repurchase?  Yes, already have a full size tube of this.

Dermalogica Multivitamin Thermafoliant
I've had this lying around for ages and finally decided to use it up.  It's an exfoliator that warms up on your skin.  It was nice to use and I like it, but not really enough to invest in a full size.
Repurchase?  Probably not.

Super by Dr Nicholas Perricone Bright Eyed Flawless Eye Treatment
This was a lovely eye cream that hydrated the eye area well, without ever feeling too heavy or greasy.
Repurchase?  Tempted!

Haircare

Percy Reed Totally TLC Hydrating Mask
I liked this and a little went a long way, but there are other hair masks that I prefer a lot more than this one.
Repurchase? No.

Burt's Bees Super Shiny Shampoo and Conditioner
These two really surprised me because I've read so many mixed reviews.  I really liked them!  Wasn't keen on the scent that much, but they made my hair feel soft and look shinier than it usually does.   Plus they didn't irritate my sensitive scalp which is always a bonus.
Repurchase?  I have some other shampoos to try out at the moment but I'm sure I'll purchase full sizes of these in the future.

Bath & Body
balance Me Super Moisturising Body Wash
I love this body wash, lovely formula and smells good too!
Repurchase?  Yes

Rituals Wai Wang Exfoliating Body Scrub
This was a nice scrub but I just didn't like the scent.
Repurchase? No.

NEOM Tranquility Organic Bath Oil
Loved using this, so relaxing!  Definitely one to try when you want a de-stressing soak in the bath.
Repurchase?  Very tempted to get the mini bath oil set at some point.

Mitchell and Peach English Growers Shower Wash
Wasn't that impressed with this considering how much it retails for.  The formula is a bit too thin for my liking and the scent wasn't for me either.
Repurchase? No

Make-Up

Jane Iredale Tantasia
Received it in this month's Joliebox and was pleasantly surprised.  It looked quite scary and orange in the tube, but I gave it a go on my face and decolletage area before going on holiday, and it gave a really natural looking, healthy glow.
Repurchase?   Maybe, I don't really use fake tan much, but if we have another rubbish
British summer again next year, I'm sure I'll be buying this!

No7 Dual Protection Tinted Moisturiser with SPF 15 in Medium
Got this sample from a GWP goody bag a while ago.  It was OK colour wise, but a bit too heavy for my oily/combination skin.  Dry skin types may get on well with it much better though.
Repurchase? No.

Une Skin Glow Foundation sample
This gives a healthy, light coverage which I really liked, but it's one that I'd only use on good skin days because it is quite sheer.
Repurchase? Maybe if I saw it on offer.

Benefit Lemonaid
I've had this for nearly two years now and I'm finally throwing it out because it's started to separate.  Nearly used it all up though and it lasts such a long time.
Repurchase?  Probably not because I'm using the
Bourjois Healthy Mix Correcting Concealer around my eyes instead now which
 is a lot cheaper.

The Body Shop Tinted Glow Enhancer
Another make-up item I'm throwing out because I've had it for ages.  It's nearly used up but has gone a bit gloopy.  This is like a liquid bronzer which you can also mix with your sunscreen or daily moisturiser to add a bit of a glow.
Repurchase? Probably not, I just didn't reach for it that often.

Handbag bits

Burt's Bees Thoroughly Therapeutic Hand Cream
Didn't like this much because I found the formula a little on the greasy side and really disliked the scent.
Repurchase? No.

balance Me Hydrating Rose Otto Salve
I liked using this on my cuticles mainly and on my heels/elbows when they needed some TLC.
Repurchase?  Probably not as there are other balms/salves that I like more.

If you have done an empties post this month, feel free to link below so that I can have a look!

May magazine freebies: Nails Inc & Rituals (and 50p Betty Crocker candles!)

Saturday, 5 May 2012

There are some good magazine freebies around this month!  I picked up two copies of Easy Living and got two Rituals products to try out; 70ml Mei Dao Organic White Lotus & Yi Yi Ren Rich Nourishing Body Cream and 70ml Wai Lang Organic White Lotus & Yi Yi Ren Exfoliating Body Scrub.  Both of these smell fresh and clean and I thought the sizes were great for popping in the old travel bag.  I also bought In Style, which has a full size Nails Inc nail polish with it.  There are three different spring pastel shades to choose from and I ended up getting two: Powder Pink and Bluebell.  The other shade was a pale peach colour.

Whilst in town, I spotted one of those 'bargain buys' shops selling off a bizarre assortment of stuff for 50p.  Having a rummage through, I found these Betty Crocker candles and bought Coconut Cream Pie and Apple Pie.  Both smell really good and they seem quite similar to Yankee candles quality wise.  Not bad for a quid!

Have you picked up any of the magazine freebies or come across any bargains today?

Glossybox - December

Thursday, 22 December 2011

Photobucket

I totally caved and got the Christmas Glossybox. I know, I know, I was annoyed with them last month, sent the box back for a refund and cancelled my sub, but I decided to get this one anyway after seeing the products. I have to say that Glossybox's customer service has been excellent. I had no problems with getting a refund for November, no problems with signing back up again and no problems when Royal Mail somehow managed to lose this month's box! Glossybox sent me another straight away via Express/Nextday delivery and here it is.

The contents: (1) BLINK + Go Long Lasting Mascara - I was really pleased to get this because I wasn't all that keen on the Blink & Go palettes that others were sent (they looked nice enough, don't get me wrong, but I'm the kind of person who will always want mascara instead if it's an option!). This thing is huge and I'm looking forward to trying it out. (2) Cargo Cosmetics Classic Lip Gloss in Tokyo - I was a little dubious when I saw this because I'd tried a Cargo eyeliner from a Boudoir Prive box a few months back which was quite frankly rubbish, so I was pleasantly surprised by this. Tokyo is a gorgeous everyday pink with a subtle hint of gold shimmer. Formula wise it's glossy without any stickiness and it reminds me of Clinique's Superbalm Moisturizing Glosses which I always have in my handbag. (3) Deborah Lippmann Mini Nail Varnish in Razzle Dazzle & Stripped To Go Sachet - Yes, you've guessed it, this was the main deciding factor for getting the box. How GORGEOUS is that nail polish?! I can't wait to wear this. I'm also interested in the little nail remover mitt too and seeing how effective it is for glitter polishes. (4) Jurlique Purely Age-Defying Ultra Firm and Lift Cream - I knew that this was the sample where there was a lot of variation as to what people got and although I was initially disappointed because I wanted something else like the MeMeMe sample instead, Jurlique is a brand that my mum uses so she'll probably like this. (5) Rituals Foaming Shower Gel in Zensation Organic Rice Milk and Cherry Blossom - It seemed really odd to me that as more brands deliberately choose to remove foaming agents from their products due to consumer demand, that then a brand should come out like this which has foaming as its USP! Weird! Not keen on the scent of this but I'll probably use it up as a shaving foam.

Summary: Glossybox obviously made a big effort for their December box, as many customers had anticipated something extra special and I think most will be pleased with this month's selection of products. However, I have cancelled my sub again and will only be purchasing boxes after I've seen what's in them, and it's likely to be boxes where most people get the same things. I do think Glossybox have definitely improved their customer service and I'll be interested to see if they start tailoring boxes to customers beauty profiles in the New Year.

Did you get the December Glossybox? Which products did you receive?
