Green Beauty: LoveLula Beauty Box - February 2021 review

Friday, 26 February 2021

Treat yourself to a LoveLula Beauty Box subscription, and every month you'll receive a box full of natural, organic and cruelty-free products from a wide range of exciting brands. Curious to find out more? Here's what's inside this month's box.

Bass Brushes Bio-Flex Style & Detangle Brush (RRP £15.99)

Made with low carbon production, this clever patented Bass hairbrush has been created using sustainable materials so that it's kinder to the environment. The handle is crafted from Bio-Flex, a unique combination of corn, potato and cassava starch which is strong and durable, but when it comes to the end of its life, it will biodegrade into carbon dioxide and water making it an ideal fertilizer. The bristles are made from 100% wood pins which can withstand the heat of hairdryers, unlike nylon pins that melt over time, so this brush will offer excellent styling and detangling properties for a long time!

Sukin Natural Balance Shampoo & Conditioner Travel Duo

Free from sulphates, silicones and harsh chemicals, this haircare duo from Sukin promises to be gentle for your hair and scalp, and keeps everything nicely balanced for healthy-looking hair. I'm always interested in trying out new shampoos and conditioners as my hair is notoriously fussy, so I'm looking forward to testing these out shortly.

Woobamboo Toothbrush (RRP £4.99)

It's never been easier to swap your single-use plastic toothbrush for a more sustainable alternative thanks to brands such as Woobamboo. Made with natural and biodegradable, fast-growing bamboo, this toothbrush works as well as a mainstream toothbrush, just with 95% less plastic. LoveLula has also included a mini Bubble Berry Toothpaste that kids and adults can try out with it.

Naturtint Strengthening Shampoo & Conditioner Bar (RRP £12.99)

Finally, that last product in this month's LoveLula box is a zero-waste Shampoo & Conditioner Bar from Naturtint.  Each bar delivers around 75-90 washes which is the equivalent of three bottles of 300ml liquid shampoo so that's saving a lot of plastic waste in your bathroom! This solid strengthening formula is 99% natural and is perfect for weak and damaged hair types.

LoveLula Beauty Box* is a monthly subscription box priced at £13.95 with free postage in the UK. Visit lovelula.com to find out more.

Introducing: Innersense - Organic & Cruelty-Free Luxury Haircare - Hydrating Hair Masque, I Create Finish Hairspray & Refresh Dry Shampoo review

Innersense - Organic, Vegan & Cruelty-Free Luxury Haircare - Hydrating Hair Masque, I Create Finish Hairspray & Refresh Dry Shampoo review
Whether you've fully embraced a lockdown haircut or are eagerly counting down the days to when your favourite hairdresser can fit you into their busy schedules again, many of us are now choosing to invest more time and money into better quality hair care products that we can use at home. It's been a boom for the luxury haircare market and one such brand that is continuing to lead the way is Innersense.

I was introduced to Innersense during May, a time when my hair was in desperate need of some TLC. The lockdown days were beginning to merge into one giant disorientated jumbled mess of sleepless nights and sadly my self-care was not always high up on my list of priorities. So when a parcel from Innersense arrived in the midst of such chaos, it was a breath of fresh air to be able to take some personal time to sort some things out, including my wayward hair.

Innersense is a luxury family-owned business based in California which was founded by two friends who are both beauty professionals. They wanted to create a cruelty-free brand that embodies the best of wellness and beauty by inspiring consumers to make healthier, greener and cleaner choices. Innersense's products use certified organic ingredients which are ethically sourced and harvested, to create formulas that are not only effective but are better for your hair and better for the environment.

They have a commitment to Beauty Without Compromise which means that their products are free from phthalates, ethoxylates, sulfates, silicones, parabens, propylene, butylene glycol, PEG, MEA, TEA, MIA, EDTA and artificial colourants. The range is a dream come true for beauty fans who love experimenting with luxury hair products and I was thrilled to receive three of Innersense's bestsellers to try out for myself.

Innersense - Organic & Cruelty-Free Luxury Haircare - I Create Finish Hairspray review
Innersense Hydrating Hair Masque* (118ml, £28, link)
As the lengths and ends of my hair are naturally very dry and frizzy, I'm a huge fan of hair masks and I love to include them in a weekly pampering session at home.  The Innersense Hydrating Hair Masque is packed full of ultra-nourishing organic ingredients such as Shea Butter, Monoi Oil, Flaxseed, Tamanu, Hydrolyzed Quinoa and Coconut Oil to hydrate, repair and strengthen dry and damaged hair, whilst adding lots of lovely shine for a gorgeous swish-worthy finish.

Depending on how dry and/or damaged your hair is to start with, you can either apply the masque for 5-20 minutes after shampooing, or for a really deep and intensive treatment, you can leave it on overnight. I've tried it both as a 20-minute treatment and as an overnight job, and I would say that the 20-minute option is better if you have fine hair like I do as this is a very rich and moisturising masque so that was enough time for my hair to soak up all of that goodness without overloading it. Dry and thick hair will definitely drink it up overnight though!

Innersense - Organic & Cruelty-Free Luxury Haircare - Hydrating Hair Masque, I Create Finish Hairspray & Refresh Dry Shampoo review
Innersense I Create Finish Hairspray* (295ml, £24, link)
Unlike some other green beauty and organic brands which are sometimes a bit lacking in their product ranges, Innersense has a hair styling aid for every situation imaginable. Whether you want to enhance your curls, create beachy waves, add volume or prep for more elaborate hairstyles, Innersense has it all, and their I Create Finish Hairspray is a good place to start.

This is a versatile product which will work well with all hair types and can be used as the finishing touch for any occasion. Most mainstream hairsprays use plastic-derived resins to make the hair 'hold', but Innersense has opted for Organic Honey instead which works as a natural resin alternative. Rice Amino Acids, Aloe, Lavender and Rooibos Tea extracts have also been included in the formula to further strengthen and hydrate delicate strands for fuller and shinier looking hair in one quick spritz.

I must admit that it doesn't perform exactly like a mainstream hairspray, but it does deliver a decent amount of hold without any sticky or stiff residue and it's easy to brush out, so there are no complaints here from my fussy hair.

Innersense - Organic & Cruelty-Free Luxury Haircare - Hydrating Hair Masque, I Create Finish Hairspray & Refresh Dry Shampoo review
Innersense Refresh Dry Shampoo* (70ml, £22, link)
I try to only wash my hair once or twice a week so I'm an avid user of dry shampoo to keep it refreshed between these washes. Saying that, this is the first time that I've used a dry shampoo which has a foam-to-powder formula so I found this one quite interesting and novel to try out!

Innersense's Refresh Dry Shampoo works like magic using a clever combination of Tapioca Starch, Witch Hazel, Hydrolyzed Quinoa and Rice Amino Acids which merge together to create a base that sucks up oil from greasy roots without the need to use any Talc (a dominant and somewhat controversial ingredient in many mainstream dry shampoos). The formula quickly changes from a foam to a light powder once it has dried, eliminating excess oil and impurities, and adding some volume and shine. To apply it, I simply added two pumps of foam to my hands and massaged it directly into my roots and left it to dry. Within a minute or so, it had transformed and I then styled it as usual.

Like all the products I've tried from Innersense, this Dry Shampoo has a gorgeous scent thanks to a relaxing blend of essential oils which help to promote further feelings of wellness, so if this sounds like a brand for you, be sure to check out the full range which is available from Cult Beauty and Innersense Organic Beauty

Introducing: Tabitha James Kraan Organic Haircare + 10% Discount Code

Thursday, 7 May 2020

Tabitha James Kraan Organic Haircare
When it comes to luxury organic haircare, there has been one British name that's stood out in green beauty circles for a few years now and that name is Tabitha James Kraan.

As is often the basis for many a woman's journey towards a healthier and more organic lifestyle, Tabitha James Kraan became aware of the link between what she was putting on her body and how certain ingredients could be passed onto her unborn child when she first became pregnant back in 1999. An entrepreneurial hair artist by trade, Tabitha already had her own established salon, and this light bulb moment led her to realise that she could be putting her clients at risk through the chemicals that she was routinely using during their appointments.

She completely transformed her brand to fully reflect her new natural and organic lifestyle and reopened her pioneering organic hair salon in the Cotswolds which was the first of its kind in the UK. Fast forward to 2013 and Tabitha began to experiment with creating her own line of natural and organic haircare products that were tested on her loyal client base, before being officially launched to the public in 2015.

Last month, I was asked to be part of the Tabitha James Kraan ambassador programme and I can't wait to share some of her award-winning, Soil Association certified products with you all which you can read about below.

Tabitha James Kraan Golden Citrus Clean Shampoo
Tabitha James Kraan Golden Citrus Clean Shampoo* (250ml, £25, link) & Golden Citrus Clean Conditioner* (200ml, £32, link)

In sleek black packaging that instantly stands out in your bathroom, TJK's Golden Citrus Clean Shampoo and Conditioner is a match made in eco-luxe heaven. Developed for all hair types, including coloured hair, both the shampoo and conditioner are made from 100% natural ingredients, a high proportion of which are also certified organic (73% for the shampoo and 85% for the conditioner)

The Shampoo boasts an ultra-gentle and nourishing formula which is great for anyone who has a dry and itchy scalp as it instantly soothes and hydrates. It also helps to rebalance an oily scalp, whilst leaving your hair thoroughly clean but not feeling stripped. The Golden Citrus aromatherapy scent adds a beautiful luxury spa-like feeling to the often mundane act of washing your hair, and with zero silicones, harsh detergents or synthetic ingredients, it's a shampoo that truly cares for the overall health of your hair.

The matching Conditioner is really more like an intensive and hydrating hair mask treatment. It's deeply moisturising in every sense of the word and left my dry hair feeling the silkiest and softest it's been in a long time, plus that Golden Citrus scent is just so addictive! Leave on for 2 minutes if you wash your hair often or bump it up to 10 minutes for a once-a-week masking treat.

Tabitha James Kraan Organic Hair Cleanser in Amber Rose
Tabitha James Kraan Organic Hair Cleanser in Amber Rose* (60ml, £9.50, link) & Organic 4-in-1 Conditioner in Amber Rose* (60ml, £9.50, link)

If you're new to the world of natural and organic haircare and don't know where to start, why not try these handy travel-size options first? I'm particularly fond of the Tabitha James Kraan's Hair Cleansers and 4-in-1 Conditioners which are an interesting alternative to regular daily haircare and can be used as the first stepping stone to detoxifying your hair.

The Hair Cleanser helps to restore the health of your scalp and hair so it's a good place to start if you're making the switch to including more green beauty products in your routine. It feels lighter than a normal shampoo, yet efficiently and gently cleanses the scalp, getting rid of build-up and impurities with a clever formula of Organic Aloe Vera, Oatmilk, Coconut Oil, Argan Oil and Rosehip Oil.

Follow up with the 4-in-1 Conditioner which can be used as a light conditioner, nourishing scalp cream to soothe any irritations, a leave-in conditioner and a styling aid to smooth away frizz and flyaways. And like the Golden Citrus scent above, this Amber Rose range smells equally alluring and beautiful.

Tabitha James Kraan Scented Organic Hair Oil
Tabitha James Kraan Scented Organic Hair Oil* (30ml, £38, link)

Speaking of beautifully scented hair, TJK's Scented Hair Oil marries together the brand's signature Amber Rose fragrance with a truly exceptional hair oil that is bursting full of 100% natural (and 99% organic) ingredients. Designed to be used as a pre-wash treatment to revive all hair types, it adds instant shine and smoothness, whilst star ingredients such as Organic Sea Buckthorn, Rosehip, Safflower, Goji Berry and Argan Oils, all work together to strengthen and nourish the hair with regular use. Say hello to glossy, healthier locks in next to no time!

Tabitha James Kraan Organic Dry Shampoo for Fair Hair* (75g, £29, link) & Compact Dry Shampoo for Dark Hair* (15g, £19, link)

No modern haircare range is complete without a dedicated line of Dry Shampoo products these days and if you've been struggling to find a natural and organic replacement, Tabitha James Kraan has the answer! Crafted from 100% natural ingredients, there are options for both Fair and Dark Hair to cleanse, restore, refresh and volumise your hair in between your shampoo sessions.

This is one of the best natural Dry Shampoo formulas that I've tried and I also love the super-luxe gold metallic packaging - the regular size looks great on vanity tables and bathroom shelves, whilst the compact version is ultra-convenient for keeping in work desk drawers and handbags to plump up and refresh your hair on the go. Plus, this Dry Shampoo smells amazing too, but you've probably already guessed that, right?!

Autumn Beauty Buys - Under £13 - #HelloOctober

Autumn Beauty Buys #HelloOctober
Need a little beauty pick-me-up? These are some of my recommended Autumn Beauty Buys to treat your nails and hair to this season - all under £13!

Treats For Nails: Leighton Denny Slick Tips Hydrating Cuticle Oil* (12ml, £12, link) & Leighton Denny Nail Polish in Inkjet* (12ml, £12, link)

Autumn is a good time to starting taking more care of your nails, as the colder weather can cause them to become drier and more brittle than usual which can lead to weakness and breakages (central heating also has a drying effect on nails and skin). Massaging in a drop or two of cuticle oil can help though and Leighton Denny's Slick Tips Hydrating Cuticle Oil is a lovely formula to try that's enriched with Jojoba Oil and Vitamins A, B and E to instantly moisturise, smooth and soften for stronger nails overall.

I've also been embracing the return of darker colours for nails and in particular, have fallen head over heels in love with another favourite from Leighton Denny. Their Nail Polish in Inkjet is the most stunning rich navy blue with a metallic silk-like finish - I always get compliments when I wear it!

Design. ME Puff. ME Light Hair Volumising Powder
Treats For Hair: Design. ME Puff. ME Light Hair Volumising Powder* (9.1g, £9.95, link)

It may have a long name, but Design. ME's Puff. ME Light Hair Volumising Powder is a must-try for anyone who has fine or difficult to style hair like mine. Free from sulphates, parabens and salt, this vegan-friendly magical volumiser helps to add texture and body to even baby-fine hair thanks to its super lightweight consistency - I was quite surprised by how you can't really tell or feel that you've used any product in your hair. Add it directly to the roots and style as normal - super easy!

A Cruelty-Free & Vegan-Friendly Alternative To Silk Pillowcases: Morning Glamour Satin Pillowcase
A Cruelty-Free & Vegan-Friendly Alternative To Silk Pillowcases: Morning Glamour Satin Pillowcase* (£12.99 for one, link)

Silk pillowcases have long been a traditional beauty secret of many A-list actresses and celebrities, as well as countless skincare and beauty gurus singing their praises over the years, but what if you want a cruelty-free and vegan-friendly alternative? Look no further, Morning Glamour's range of Satin Pillowcases has got your back!

Available in several different colours to fit your bedroom colour scheme, these pillowcases are just as luxurious feeling as their silk counterparts and help to prevent hair breakages and night time skin wrinkles as it provides a smooth surface to sleep on. They're also great for damaged or frizzy hair types and are non-absorbent so your skin and hair retains moisture better throughout the night - genius!

What's on your Autumn beauty wishlist?

New In Beauty: Travel-Friendly Summer Products To Try This Month

New In Beauty: 4 Summer Products To Try This Month
The sun is shining and it's Friday - yay! There's no better time to dive into a New In Beauty round-up to catch up with some of the latest travel-friendly releases.

Vitage Skin Defence SPF 30
Vitage Skin Defence SPF 30* (100ml, £26, link)

I say it every single year, but sunscreen is the number one skincare essential that you need to be applying every day, so if you only purchase one beauty product all Summer, make it sunscreen! I've been enjoying using this one from Vitage - their Skin Defence SPF 30 protects from both UVA and UVB rays so that you're fully shielded from the harmful effects of the sun. It has a brilliant lightweight formula that leaves the skin nice and matte, and it sits well underneath makeup without pilling or flaking off, plus the 100ml tube will fit perfectly into your hand luggage if you're going abroad this year.

Don't just take my word for it though - it won an Anti-Ageing award from the Beauty Bible and is suitable for all skin types to use, including sensitive. P.S: As with all sunscreens, make sure that you re-apply a generous amount all over every two hours, and straight away after swimming/washing.

Hershesons Almost Everything Cream
Hershesons Almost Everything Cream* (50ml, £10, link)

Hershesons are hair gods - seriously, pop into any of their coveted 'beauty spaces' and you'll be guaranteed to walk out with the best blow dry or hair cut that you've ever had. Needless to say, I've been smitten with their latest product which is available to purchase online if you don't live near one of their stores - the Almost Everything Cream. This multi-purpose cream is a true hair wonder and then some!

Ideal to use on any kind of hair including Afros and beards, this clever multi-tasker tames frizz and flyaways, adds shine, defines curls, deeply conditions and hydrates, gives texture to any style, oh, and it can also be used as a stand-alone hair mask once a week. Pretty impressive, huh? I've tested it on my fine, frizzy hair and it gives me such a beautifully sleek and shiny finish. A tiny amount goes a long way and at just £10 a tube, I can see this being a regular purchase to keep my fussy hair in check, especially in humid weather.

Arbonne RE9 Advanced Prepwork Overnight Face Jelly
Arbonne RE9 Advanced Prepwork Overnight Face Jelly* (50ml, £36, link)

I must admit that I've tried several products from Arbonne in the past which I didn't rate at all, but their new RE9 Advanced Prepwork Overnight Face Jelly has really surprised me. A great product to try if you hate the feeling of heavy, greasy creams or sticky serums, this Face Jelly instead has a light gel texture that absorbs into the skin quickly and doesn't leave any residue sitting on the top.

I find it quite refreshing to use after a hot and humid day of running errands, and with a vegan-friendly formula that's packed with Vitamins C and E, phytonutrients, omegas and ceramides, it delivers an intense shot of moisture and essential nutrition to keep your skin looking and feeling its best. Apply after cleansing in the evenings instead of your usual face cream or oil, or pair it with one of those if you have particularly dry or dehydrated skin.

KISS Lash Couture Faux Mink Collection Lashes in Soir and Muse
KISS Lash Couture Faux Mink Collection Lashes in Soir and Muse* (£11.99 each, link)

Fans of false lashes are in for a treat as KISS have recently brought out these handy new double packs for their hugely popular Lash Couture Faux Mink Collection. Each pack contains two pairs of the same lash design, making it ultra-convenient to have a spare set to take with you on holiday, without taking up loads of space in your handbag.

I'm a big fan of these cruelty-free lashes as they feature a flexible knot-free lash band and I find them a lot easier to apply than some other brands. They also feel lightweight when you're wearing them and you can re-use them up to 10 times (as long as you carefully take them off after each use of course!). Shown above are Soir, a full on, darker and thicker fluttery lash which are perfect for nights out, and Muse, a super pretty, wispy and fluttery style for those who prefer a more natural, but still full lash look.

Which Summer beauty products are you currently enjoying?

Organic Haircare: Dry Hair Saviours from John Masters Organics

Organic Haircare: Dry Hair Saviours from John Masters Organics
Making the switch to natural and organic haircare doesn't mean that you have to miss out on luxury products - not when you have some dry hair savours from John Masters Organics in your bathroom!

In the ever-widening world of green beauty, there's one name that stands out from the rest when it comes to all things luxury hair care and that name is John Masters Organics. Founded on decades of innovative formula research and practical, hands-on expertise (the man behind the brand is a world-famous hairdresser to a star-studded clientele list), John Masters has been committed to promoting clean and natural formulas that work for all hair types since the '80s.

All of their products are free from Silicones, Parabens, Phthalates, Mineral Oils, Synthetic Fragrances and Synthetic Dyes, and everything is made from at least 95% organic ingredients (certified by USDA Organic). The brand's cruelty-free status is approved by PETA and their eco-friendly ethics mean that all of JMO's bottles are made from 100% recyclable packaging (plus all the printing on the bottles themselves is produced with washable soya ink, and all their paper packaging is made from recycled paper).

If you haven't tried anything from John Masters Organics yet and your hair is feeling dry, damaged or dehydrated, check out these bestsellers.

Organic Haircare: Dry Hair Saviours from John Masters Organics
John Masters Organics Shampoo For Dry Hair* (236ml, £24, link) and Conditioner For Dry Hair* (236ml, £25, link)

This hard-working duo has been a godsend for my dry hair recently, which has been feeling even drier and rougher due to the colder weather and those awful blistering winds! Starting with the Shampoo, it quickly becomes clear that this is a great SLS and sulphate-free formula because it has a gentle lather that's easy to work up in your hands, and it spreads across the hair smoothly without tangling everything up (the latter of which is sometimes a common bugbear with SLS-free shampoos)

Key ingredients include Evening Primrose Oil which is naturally high in Gamma Linolenic Acid that's needed for keeping your hair and scalp in tip-top condition; Jojoba Seed Oil for essential moisture, something that dry hair urgently requires, and Avocado Oil to further hydrate and nourish for the soft and swish-worthy results every time you use it. I always try to use a shampoo that's free from sulphates these days because I find that SLS really strips the natural oils from the scalp and irritates it, so if you have the same problem, I strongly recommend switching to a different shampoo like this one.

To complete your dry hair transformation, the matching Conditioner has a beautiful silicone-free formula that's rich in gentle and hydrating ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Avocado Oil, Lavender, Jojoba Seed Oil, Babassu Seed Oil and Vitamins B5 and E. What I like the most about this conditioner, apart from its gorgeous scent, is that it doesn't overload or weigh down my fine hair, yet still manages to keep my parched hair moisturised, smooth and looking shinier than before.

John Masters Organics Vented Paddle Brush
John Masters Organics Vented Paddle Brush* (£29, link)

Investing in a good quality brush can make a world of difference to the health and happiness of your hair, especially if you can be a bit heavy-handed with the styling tools. This Vented Paddle Brush is made from eco-friendly and sustainable bamboo and is fantastic for blow-drying with. It's lightweight so it feels comfortable to use and hold, and the wider spread out bristles glide effortlessly through your hair to remove any knots or tangles in a jiffy - perfect!

Green Beauty: LoveLula Beauty Box - December 2018 review

Green Beauty: LoveLula Beauty Box - December 2018 review
The final LoveLula beauty box for the year arrived last week and it's packed full of green beauty pampering goodies, just in time for the Christmas break! The contents of the box are worth £60, so let's jump right in and see what's inside for December.

Kathleen Natural Sensual Rose Bubble Bath & Shower Gel
Kathleen Natural Sensual Rose Bubble Bath & Shower Gel (RRP £18)
One of the best things about the Christmas holidays is that extra time to indulge in a long hot bath (ideally with a good book and glass of wine - that's my idea of heaven), and this luxury Bubble Bath from Kathleen Natural will be such a pleasure to use. I received the Sensual Rose scent in my box which I'm so happy about as I was running low on some of my favourite rose-scented bath treats, so I'm looking forward to jumping into the tub with this one instead. No bath? Don't worry, it also doubles up as a Shower Gel so everyone can try it out.

Hairy Jayne Hair Perfume in Floral
Hairy Jayne Hair Perfume in Floral (30ml travel size - full-size retails for £22)
For hair, there's a beautiful Hair Perfume from Hairy Jayne in a handy travel size bottle. I've actually tried this before in the past and absolutely loved it because they smell amazing and fresh, plus you can use it as a heat protector, shine enhancer and frizz-tamer, so it's a pretty awesome multi-purpose product! A little goes a long way too, especially if you have fine hair like mine. They do a range of scents and this one is Floral which is a lovely mix of Geranium, Bergamot and Vanilla.

Seascape Island Apothecary Hand & Nail Cream in Refresh
Seascape Island Apothecary Hand & Nail Cream in Refresh (RRP £10)
You can never have enough hand cream at this time of the year and this one from Seascape Island Apothecary has won the 'Best Everyday Hand Cream' in the Beauty Shortlist Awards. It has a lovely nourishing texture thanks to key ingredients such as Shea Butter, Olive Oil and Beeswax, and sinks into the skin quickly without being sticky or feeling greasy afterwards. A must-try if your hands are feeling dry this Winter.

Glossworks Nail Polishes in Ruby On Nails & Silver Bullet (RRP £12 each)
I was hoping for something makeup related in the December box and LoveLula delivered with these two gorgeous festive Nail Polishes from their popular Glossworks range. They are cruelty-free, vegan-friendly and feature a 9-free formula (so there's no Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Toluene, DBP, Camphor, Parabens, Xylene, Ethyl Tosylamide or Lead) with a high-shine glossy finish - what more could you want?!

LoveLula Beauty Box* is a monthly subscription box priced at £13.95 with free postage in the UK. Visit lovelula.com to find out more.

September Beauty Favourites
Another month has passed us by and we'll soon be heading into Winter before we know it! Which is perhaps why so many of my September Beauty Favourites are geared towards the upcoming colder weather, so here's what I've been loving recently.

Ingenious Beauty Ultimate Collagen+ Supplements
Ingenious Beauty Ultimate Collagen+ Supplements* (£75, 120 capsules for 40 days supply, link)

I'm a huge fan of taking supplements to boost my health as many of you already know, and during Autumn and Winter, I like to add a high-quality collagen supplement to my daily routine to further boost my skincare. Now, I've tried a lot of different brands and it's safe to say that no two collagen supplements are the same, and it's often the more expensive ones that will give you actual noticeable results, which these ones from Ingenious Beauty have done for me.  Their Ultimate Collagen+ Supplements are 100% natural and feature a 'Unique Triple Active' where each vegetable based capsule contains:-

  • Natural Astaxanthin (a powerful antioxidant found in certain marine plants - it helps to improve skin moisture levels and elasticity, prevents and repairs UV damage, reduces the appearance of wrinkles, freckles and spots and has also been shown to help improve heart, eye and cellular health, as well as boosting the body's immune system).
  • Natural Marine Collagen (derived from fish and revered for its antioxidant properties, it helps to repair cellular damage caused by environmental factors such as UV rays, low humidity, and the overall ageing process).
  • Natural Hyaluronic Acid (an ingredient we all now know and love in the skincare world - this superstar hydrates and plumps the skin by holding 1,000 times its own weight in water, supporting skin cell renewal, building collagen and healing wounds).

I've been taking these supplements as instructed (one to three capsules a day on an empty stomach) for the past four weeks, and I've seen a noticeable improvement in my skin. It feels much smoother, looks more even and brighter, and the dehydrated areas have nearly vanished. My nails also feel stronger and are less prone to breaking. Impressive! They're sadly not cheap, but as the ingredients are housed in an enteric capsule, it means that they are absorbed by the body in the small intestine for maximum effect, rather than being broken down in the stomach, so that's something to consider if you're looking for a new collagen supplement to try out. Highly recommended.

balmkind Alpine Rose & Lysine Lip Balm
balmkind Alpine Rose & Lysine Lip Balm* (10ml, £14.50, link)

I always carry a lip balm with me wherever I go and my new handbag addition comes from a British company called balmkind who I was recently introduced to, and they only make one product, the Alpine Rose & Lysine Lip Balm. This lip balm is formulated with a host of nourishing ingredients and features Alpine Rose, Lysine, Oat Lipids, Licorice Root, Pomegranate Sterols and Vitamin E to name but a few. Free from Parabens, Mineral Oil, Lanolin, Palm Oil and Phthalates, it's a deeply moisturising lip balm that also gives a beautiful glossy shine to the lips, similar to that of a non-sticky gloss. Great for applying on the go and perfect for the colder weather ahead.

Caolion Pore Tightening Day and Night Glowing Duo
Caolion Pore Tightening Day and Night Glowing Duo* (20g & 30g, £30, link)

Korean skincare brand, Caolion, have been constantly popping up on my beauty radar lately so I was eager to try out one of their bestsellers, the Pore Tightening Day and Night Glowing Duo. These two moisturisers neatly stack up on each other saving you valuable room in your bathroom cabinet or travel bag, and I really like this sleek form of minimalistic packaging. On top, there's the Pore Tightening Bounce Cream, a lightweight, almost gel-meets-cream that's instantly absorbed into the skin and has a wonderfully 'bouncy' texture. It helps to control sebum, minimizes the look of large pores and moisturises all at the same time, so you can easily swap your morning moisturiser and use this instead if you have oily skin, plus it makes an amazing smooth base for makeup so you can skip the primer step as well.

Underneath that, you'll find the Pore Tightening Memory Sleeping Mask which has a weird, but fun jelly-meets-non-sticky-honey feel and texture to it. It's a bit gloopy when you take it out of the jar so there's a handy spatula included, and I like to scoop out a portion and put it straight into the palms of my hands so I can apply it to my face easier. It has a fresh and minty scent, and feels lovely and cooling on the skin, with a subtle tightening effect. Pores appear much smaller and less noticeable in the morning and although this is only a temporary effect, it's a welcome one!

Playa Pure Dry Shampoo

One of my favourite beauty discoveries from last month was finding a Californian natural luxury haircare brand called Playa. I fell in love with several of their products, but their Pure Dry Shampoo particularly won me over. Made from a base of Rice Starch and Rose Powder mixed with a blend of botanicals and minerals, it effortlessly sucks up excess oil and dirt, completely refreshing the hair in no time at all. Be sure to check out my feature on Playa here for more gorgeous haircare.

Lastly, I just had to feature one of Aveda's latest new haircare releases because I've been using it constantly since it arrived through my letterbox a couple of weeks ago. Texture Tonic is an easy to use texturising spray made from 94% naturally derived ingredients. It utilises Cane Sugar and Salt to add texture and flexible hold to styles like beachy waves, for a fuss-free, but beautiful finish. I love how it also adds some extra shine and doesn't make my hair feel stiff, dry or 'crunchy' afterwards - win win!

Playa Pure Dry Shampoo, Ritual Hair Oil & Endless Summer Spray review
Californian girls certainly know a thing or two about hair and how to achieve those covetable beachy waves, so I was over the moon when a package arrived from a brand called Playa, straight from Venice Beach, LA.

There is something incredibly cool about the spirit of LA and California in general, and I think us Brits are obsessed with their way of life over there, as much as the rest of the world seems to be! I know it's been at the top of my own wanderlust list for a very long time and when finances allow, I'll be booking a trip to sunny SoCal as soon as possible! Until then, I'll have to be content with experimenting with as much Californian beauty products as humanly possible, starting with these natural hair goodies from Playa.

Playa is a brand new botanical based hair care brand which only recently launched back in May, but it's already caught the attention of the likes of Byrdie, Vogue and The Wall Street Journal, which is hella impressive, to say the least. Founded by a former fashion stylist named Shelby Wild, the young entrepreneur packed her bags and moved from New York to LA to be next to the beach and reconnect with nature.  She studied Herbalism and after years of development, Playa was born.

Shelby very kindly sent me a couple of Playa's best sellers to try out and even though the weather has taken a turn for the worse in rainy old England, at least my hair has been looking good!

Playa Pure Dry Shampoo review
Playa Pure Dry Shampoo* (145ml, $26, link)

Dry Shampoo is a massive lifesaver for me, especially when I'm running late or I simply haven't had the time to properly wash my hair. I also have naturally oily roots and I find that if I did wash it every day, it becomes even oilier, so a good quality dry shampoo is a must! Playa's Pure Dry Shampoo features a blend of botanicals and minerals to refresh and absorb excess oil. Key ingredients include Rose Powder which is great for sucking up grease and keeping hair soft, whereas Star Anise extract helps it be kind to sensitive scalps and eliminates any impurities. The end result is super fresh hair that has some extra volume to it, but without any build-up or residue afterward. I'm really impressed with this - it's easy to use as a spray activated dry shampoo, and it keeps my hair feeling fresh all day long.

Playa Ritual Hair Oil review
Playa Ritual Hair Oil* (40ml, $38, link)

Alongside dry shampoo, I always keep a stash of hair oils handy to help me make some sense of my notoriously frizzy locks, and they come in really useful when my hair is feeling damaged or dry. I was excited to try the Ritual Hair Oil as it contains a super blend of Kukui, Apricot and Sunflower Oils in a Coconut Oil derived base, and I have to say that it did not disappoint. It has an ultra convenient dropper applicator and I've found that I only needed a couple of drops to get the best results each time. I was a little worried that the oil was going to be too rich for my fine hair, but the formula has been specially designed to be weightless and easily absorbed without the need for silicones, so my hair has been loving it! It works wonders for taming frizz and flyaways, and my dry ends and lengths feel stronger and look much shinier since I started using it. Amazing stuff!

Playa Endless Summer Spray review
Playa Endless Summer Spray* (108ml, $28, link)

As I mentioned earlier, my hair is very fine, so it needs all the help it can get when it comes to volume and creating texture in hairstyles. The delightfully named Endless Summer Spray is a must-have for anyone who wants to get those covetable beachy waves without the annoying crunch or sticky residue. It uses Sea Salt that's harvested from Southern California and contains a Marine Complex which helps to add volume and shine, plus there are natural UV filters included in the formula to shield your hair from the worst of the sun's damaging rays. This styling spray is really easy to use too; a quick spritz here and there gives you instant texture and a little volume boost without making my hair feel dry. All I need now is a holiday to California!

Shop the full range at Playa.ca and keep an eye out for a UK launch early next year in Space NK and Liberty.
